Heat Shield Ideas?

Hi,

I have just installed a 3inch turbo back exhaust on my r33 gts-t. The dump pipe is a single 3 inch bellmouth type. really happy with the results!

however the stock heat shielding all had to be removed.

how effective is this heatshield and how much will it affect engine bay temps by not having it? significant power reductions?

wanted to know what people have done (with pics if possible) to shield the standard turbo combination?

Apparently it can be put on but its a bit of a pain. They did the same to mine when i had it installed...

I had some electrics nearby that became extremely hot and the plastic began to show signs of it melting. Not good.

In short i had one made up.

I've got a stainless one that suits a Gtst if you want it. Was on my '98 R33. PM if interested. I changed turbo and manifold so can't use it any more.

Trim the factory one and put it back on.

Easy.

I also need to get one made up/modified. I don't think it’s a good idea not to have one. I’m a bit wary of the abs wires and air conditioner pipe just below the turbo.

I saw a sweet custom shield some dude on here made out of a stainless steel cooking pot

Repco sell this flexible ACL heat shield material. About $45 for 2.0mx0.5m approx. When I went in there no even knew they stocked it. Its great stuff, easy to form into any shape.

thats a good idea, mgiht look into that, whats the best way to mount it to the turbo though?

Bolt onto the same holes for your stock heatshield. Not onto the turbo itself. Just cover a larger diameter where the turbo sits.

Will have to look into it, im about to put a 3540 and stainless manifold on my car and want to make up a heat shield that looks factory and covers everything so they cant tell that everything has been changed, im sure a cop will spot it sooner or later but i dont want to make it easy for em

This is my one i made out of stainless steel. Was mainly for cosmetic reasons just to cover it all up, but would help in temps a bit.

That is one hella sexy engine bay!

As for the heat shield, had the mechanic make some brackets up and attach the stock heat shield to the apron. I am also considering having the dump heat wrapped before summer comes around.

thanks for the replies guys. very ncie engine bay there! I will experiement with the stock heat shield and if I cant get the results Im after ill buy some of that ACL stuff. Would like to get the stock sheild in there only to keep it looking standard if/when I get pulled over for an inspection

Yes, this stuff is very effective....i use it on my VL turbo to protect the fuse box.

does anyone have some close up pics of the stock heat shielding. Im having a go and putting it back in ontop of my new dump pipe but cant work out how it lines up. any pics would be great!

i have one but not on the car.

although i do have the standard turbo off the car as well, could sit the two together if you like
