hi,

I would like to ask something I have not found an answer for.

If you had a gtr(stock 260rs), and wanted to have control over the engine management, would you save up and get a motec that will do everything or just add the different bits and pieces ?

I understand that alot of members here have bought their rides with hks this and apexi that, but i have a clean sheet (stock) and would rather have full intergration.

If there is a special em system that is designed for the gtr33, please let me know, so i know what i have to save. I will enjoy the stock power for a while, but it is nice to play :headspin:

This car is a gtr33 vspec for driveline and brakes. its hard to find out alot about them. i plan on doing a website in engrish. i see it on 4/2, i will post pics.

Does the power fc do it all ?

ebc, efi, afm, speedlimiter, timing, knock, egt.

I want to slowly build this car for targa type events and club days...its also my daily drive.

Just checked the Apexi site... They do not list a PowerFC for the Stagea :D Here is the blurb for the PowerFC though:

http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_fc.asp

I don't think they have an adjustable speedlimiter or an EGT readout but they can do everything else you mentioned...

Someone with more experience can probably comment on whether the 33GTR PFC works in the Stagea 260RS...

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have been reading about the pro's and con's on different ECU piggybacks or replacements.

It does look like the Power FC is the go as it is easy to install, tune and run. It also does a lot for the money. Guess it will not take very long to save up then as I was looking at about $6k+ for the motec when the power fc is under $2k

Thanks

Mal

Wouldn't it be the same for the GTR33 and stagea as its the same running gear and ECU?

It this not a fair assumption to make? One would assume the PowerFC would work on the stagea as its the same engine and ECU from the r33 gtr. Anyone else have any ideas?

Hi guys, my understanding of the Autec Stageas is that they get a Standard RS Four from Nissan and use R33 GTR bits (up to 1998) and R34 GTR bits (after 1998) to "GTR'ise" it. So if your's is pre 1998 then an R32/33 GTR Power FC should work just fine. If it's a later model, then an R34 Power FC would be required.

Hope that helps.

Wolf has the GTR plugins on sale now.

We won Perths Motorvation Dyno comp( Outright)with one in a true street car dynoed as driven every week 616@all4 wheels and this car drives sweet and has better fuel economy than when standard.PM ND4SPD on these forums for details or check out WA forums for show pics.PS no Air flow meters.

Ho Ho Ho, I just can't resist it, sorry Steve-SST (in advance)....

"has better fuel economy than when standard"

So, when it is producing 616 (is that rwhp or rwkw?) it uses less fuel than when it was producing 206 kw? That's amazing, last time this happened 3 wize men came out of the west (or was that east? I can never remember which). Regardless, call the Pope, quick, it's a miracle.

Or do you mean when it is being driven around on zero boost, making 50 rwhp, it uses less fuel? Well, I should hope so! Otherwise all those efficiency improvements (cams, port, compression, lighter rods, pistons, balancing, free flowing exhaust etc) made no difference.

"no Air flow meters."

So what, Apexi V Max made 1,100 ps and ran an 8.4 at 165 mph with air flow meters and a Power FC. Oh and it had 9.3 to 1 compression ratio, so it probably gets even better fuel economy.

When this 616 (whatever they are's) car gets off the dyno and on to the track and runs a time then it may have some credibility, dyno heros are wasted on me.

I feel better now, been a while since I had a friendly dig at Steve.

Hi Mal,

I have an R33 GTR powerFc and hand controller for sale right now off my r33 gtr. I only want 1.2K for it. It even has an excellent dyno tune to suit a standard GTR engine. A check of the tune would be required of course as all engines are a little different but for 1200 bucks you can't beat it! Save a good 800 dollars in tuning with just a check and modify if needed.

I no longer need it due to alternate (read heaps more bloody expensive!!!) route taken.

I think everyone is right on this topic. I would imagine the engine loom and therfore wiring to the ecu would be identical to a normal r33 gtr. So it's a simple unplug then plug in the Apexi using the factory loom. this will keep the diagnostic control through the apexi and of course all normal functions working properly.

Drop me an Email at sebsgtir@yahoo.com.au or PM me if interested, I'm in Sydney.

Sebaz

thanks Sebaz,

I might take you up on that offer, but I think I will need the R34 model.

The 260RS I am getting is a 1999 model so I believe it has the R34 GTR motor in it.

Once I get the car next month I will be able to check what it has as info is thin on the ground as to what these beasties have in them

Hey Steve, can't you take a friendly dig? Plus I have never resorted to swearing, why do you think you have to offer up profanities at me?

If it ain't just a dyno hero, then what times has it done? I don't care whether it is 1/4 at Kwinana or Barbagallo Raceway lap time, show me a result. Without a real world result, a dyno sheet is just another piece of paper I can wipe my ass with.

As for the "WA guys" telling me anything, well I keep looking at the times and I don't see anything that impresses me much. I look at the HPI Street Drag Challenge hoping that some of these fantastic cars that we all hear so much about, might make an appearance. But it never happens, there are 50 cars on the list, with only 1 from WA, and that's in the 12's.

Come on, how hard is it to stick a set of Nittos on this 616 car and give it a run at Kwinana? Or stick some R's on it and post a time at Barbagallo? A low 10 ET for the 1/4, a 130+ mph TS or a sub 60 sec lap time. Any one of those will shut me up and I'll never have another dig at you again, friendly or otherwise.

Hi Steve-SST, I have a lot of respect for Wilson and Munro, they put their GTR's out there and compete, low 9's on radials and without NOS is some achievement. Mario is is also fair into it, albeit with slicks and an airshifter. Sub Zero have been there and done the auto thing in 2wd Skylines and they have been into the 8's on slicks and NOS. I'm afraid that, in my humble opinion, an automatic GTR is not really a GTR at all.

As for what this 616 car should do............

Using Munros car as an example, when it had 455 rwhp he did an 11.1 @ 127 mph. So if this car truly has 616 rwhp, then a low 10 is not asking too much.

Last time I was at Barbagallo, the team V8Supercar did a 57 with 525 rwhp. So I don't think a 60 is unrealistic for a car with 4wd and 616 rwhp. As long at it stops and turns OK of course. But I did say R tyres (not slicks), so maybe that is asking too much, but a 63 should still be doable.

Consequently I think the low 10 still stands and I will back off to a 63 for a lap time. But that is purely academic anyway, I don't think as an auto it is ever gunna get near a circuit.

Anyway this is totally off the topic of this thread, so I'll stop right here.

This GTR is a true streetcar but we are building a Drag GTR and are using the 4WD glide for 1 meeting in the street GTR then fitting a PPG after we get a time card then try again with the PPG.This GTR made 644rwhp @25psi on my Dyno Dynamics Shootout accredited

dyno last friday then went to motorvation and won outright at 616hp @all4 wheels in true street trim.I have a customer with a DR30 with a stock RB25DET fitted with 2 25/30s macking 400rwhp that dose 63s at Barbagallo and it is a front runner and you expect a true street car to be able to lap at the same times as WAs best R comp class race cars?

I have many customers with championships.Last time you bagged out 1 of my power claims (again on a shootout dyno)GTS t VESPECs car it to won a dyno comp on another dyno.

411rwhp on my dyno 436 on a Dyna pack.

I do own a workshop and it is one of WAs top shops with 5 people working there now and we still have to much work.

We have a young kid in WA that reads the net etc and posts what he reads as own just as i feel you do, You are not Australias resident Expert or you work would be everywere.

I think this will get closed now but i had to say it.

I work at SST and i can tell you Steve isn;t lying with his power claims as i see it with my own 2 eyes. Need4spd's GTR is absolutely awesome and theres no doubt it would run a low 10 with a PPG gearset. And yes it is a true driven street car as we are taking it out tonight on a commodore cruise to give some chop chop.

Your new RB26 will be the next car we claim bullshit power figures for Simon but as you are a racer they will have to exept it.

As said before ND4SPD ran 11.4 with 378rwhp but has 644rwhp(25psi) now and is about to see 32psi with a new gearbox.Could Sydneykid be badbiki posting under a 2nd name?

    • Just as long as it's not those putridly disappointing RE003s.
    • I had this same experience going from a set of no name tyres that were on a set of good wheels (Enkei RPFs) to some Potenza RE-11s (this was a few years ago). The wet grip in particular was so much higher that it was almost scary considering how dangerous the old tyres were in comparison. The expense of the tyres also made me want them to last longer so drove accordingly. Wife happy. So now she only 'lets' me buy some flavour of Brigestones...
    • This. All of this. I am turning >$300 into small particles inside 20k km, because I like to be able to roll around any 90° street corner at the speed limit. Would my car be more fun with cheaper tyres? Possibly. When I swapped out the bald AD09s for new ones, the change in the car was massive. The obvious one was being able to put the power down instead of lighting up into silly wheelspin. But the corollary of that was that the lateral traction went from being fun to fast. It was more fun when it was loose. But the corollary to the corollary is that if I need to dodge a child in the road or emergency brake to avoid the arsehat who has just tipped a GWM on its side in front of me, then I've got a much better chance of that manoeuvre coming off without unintended "fun" meaning that I hit something else, or the original target.
    • Every time I have to buy new tyres I question what actual difference it makes between running $40 tyres and $300 tyres and whether it's worth it. Because that's a massive difference to the wallet. But then I did go to a driving training at some point which also included emergency braking and swerving in the wet. In part I think it was meant to show people how bad it gets. Funnily enough what I took away from it is that I can go much harder than I thought in my car. I presume mostly because of decent tyres. Some of the other cars there were shocking to behold. And a bit scary that cheap tyres are probably a lot more common on the road than decent ones
    • I'm pretty sure that is just straight AI generated word soup, where did you receive that ad (facebook)? They misspell Pirelli twice, no human eyes looked at that before it was posted. Incidentally, I am running the chinese pirellis on my V37 and they are.....OK....I didn't go looking for them, they were just what the shop had in stock in the tall size that car needs. LIke any brand, you really can't trust the brand's reputation to apply to every product they produce. Pirelli make good and crap tyres, all with the same logo stamped on them, and all with an attempt at price premium due to the brand
