Hey fellas

Just registered here because i have a question or 2. I previously had a stock berlina but lost my license a little while ago. i get it back in a few days but i have also recently purchased a r32 turbo.

I dont know how many kw's it runs but i can give u some info on it.

its only got a standard airbox with new K&N panel air filter

custom pipe front mount, not very visable

and a RB25DET Series 1 Turbo, ball bearing, steel wheel.

Just wondering if its p plater legal?

It looks like a sleeper but what will happen if i get pulled over by cops and they notice the turbo?

The answer is no!!!

How hard is it to find the answer before buying an illegal car?

If you are pulled over expect to be fined and lose points for driving high powered vehicle, cops also pick on p platers in high po cars so prepare to be defected

PS:

Sorry to sound harsh, it's just that every week someone asks the same question. I don't want to give you the wrong first impression of SAU

Welcome...

This will not be P plate legal, not even with the old laws that allowed people to drive turbocharged vehicles with less than 125kw/tonne. When you get pulled over by the cops they won't need to notice the turbo because the car will come up as a turbocharged model when they do a background check on the vehicle. At which point they may (read: most likely will) fine you for driving an overpowered vehicle. And if you have an accident, your insurance company may void any claim you make because you were driving illegally. My advice, sell the car or store it until you are off your Ps.

/thread.

Thanks for the info. major downer. i only just bought it a few days ago too >.>

its really weird because my mates miss's has a r32 turbo, its pink for chirst sake, with a blow off and all, serious cop bait. you can tell its not legit yet she drives it when they go on cruises, afaik she drives it to and from work, daily. "drumrolll" shes on her RED P's

Silly girl! Don't be like her...it's worth the wait, you'll have all the time in the world to drive around when you're off your P's and the police can't touch you (except for EPA/defects but that's another world altogether lol).

umm... i highly doubt that

The above comments answered your question perfectly i just wanted to add that if you get caught especially in Melbourne around certain areas there are a few cops around that will go to every extent to give you a hard time weather you where acting stupid on the road or not they will pull you over because your driving an import especially being on your P's im talking about multiple defects / fines i guess some cops have a grudge against the cars we drive. Its best to store the car and drive something else until your off your P's.

    • Yes to both! Yes to standard ECU and tune, but exhaust is aftermarket. Unsure on brand. Actually have it sitting in at my desk haha! I have to set it up on my laptop but this is a great next step, will do. So I generally try to shift before 4.5K RPM most times. I largely don't do a lot of high-rev driving, but I will take it up to red 1-2x a week max, as I know the occasional "Italian tune-up" is good for these cars.  Oh wow, is this way better than what I'm getting. Does this mean there's a good chance I have an issue?   Thanks for all the info so far guys.
    • Old Son, did you re-use the Holden ABS in the new shell or try a different module?
    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
