Hey every one

Just wanted a bit of input.. im thinking of buying a cusco 2 way diff for my car, i use my car as a daily to go to uni but at the same time do a fair bit of AHG/RAC track days.. Im also looking into attending some Barbagallo events from next year.

Ive read on the forums a bit and found out that the Nismo 2way is the smoothest and quietest, followed by the cusco, which is followed then by the Kaaz 2 way..

I wanted to know if any one on here uses a 2way in a daily driven car, also what they think of the Cusco 2ways compared to all the other diffs out there? and finally am i going to have a lot of issues/problems by installing a diff like this on an every day car?

I have one.

I use my car as a daily. You get a few odd looks and your neighbours think your ripping a skid when your turning around etc, but other than that its fine.

Cant help in regards to branding as im not 100% what mine is. (came out of a car imported from japan that hadnt been to compliance yet)

get a 1 or 1.5 way, there is plenty of info on the net about how they work. 2 way = drift diff,

drift diff not the best for the street.

Hey dude

Yep i read up a few docs the reason i posted it was because some people say the 2way isn’t as bad as people think they are and that if you know how to drive with that diff correctly its not too much of an issue

ive driven both a kaaz 1.5 (my car) and also the 2 way and found the 1.5 gives a verry similar performance on track with more comfort on the road

but my sugestion is drive as many as you can a make a decision based on that cause YOU will be doing the driving

oh and your welcome to take cherrired for a thrash once i replace the shifter

Hard locks up on uneven ground or sudden turning, will lock up in any case (a bit sifter, but occasionally locks up hard) on accel, decel, any kind of turning, and parking.

Not too bad on the streets, reversing up my driveway is still a little tricky.

Also stupidly difficult to control at low speeds in the wet if you're actually trying to keep some traction.

Hey man, i would like to buy a 1.5 way however ive found a 2way cusco diff that is going for a good price.. that’s one reason for me asking

and at the same time my standard diff is on its way out.. it hums really loud and clunks here and there :) .

Hmmm is it really hard to get a grasp of i don’t mind the traction loss here and there, however will it break traction even if i just make a simple right turn? also if i clutch in around the corner would this de activate the diff or as its a 2 way would it always be locking no matter what?

you will have zero issue with a nismo 2way lsd on the street if you run it in correctly and change the oil (nismo state every 3,000km)

Comparing my nismo 2way to my mates kaaz 2way, my nismo was alot more street friendly and was alot more quicker.

I have a NISMO GT LSD for sale in 2weeks done less than 2,000km (Running Motul completition oil 17W140, the oil nismo recommends), comes in housing with side shafts (everything less than 2000km old bears, shafts etc) $1250 come out of r33 gts-t so suits 5 bolt flange r200 diffs.

also got 2L of nismo completition dif oil 75W140 aka nismo motul if you need it.

Also my dad has driven my car more than me in the last 2,000km and he had no issue with losing traction or anything else when driving the car. same goes for me.

And 2way is not for drift only....

I will stick to the Cusco 2way, however how much do you want for the 2L of nismo/motul completition dif oil 75W140 ? and would this be suited for a cusco 2 way.. or is it the wrong oil for this type of diff.. cheers

1.5 is best for street , both my cars run them

LOL Why would you need a 1.5 to reverse back to letterbox and go forward again ? :thumbsup:

2way diff in my car

like was said earlier can be abit of a pain at slow speeds in the wet, especially the first rains after dry spell. concrete driveways and such are noisy when turning ie service stations, if you have those nice agrigate driveways ppl get abit anoyed with the marks. also if the popo hear it they can be abit harsh.

The cusco RS is more friendly than the track oriented MZ.

I had the same issue when choosing my diff so I bought an ATS 2-way carbon diff. Just have to get it fitted now.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.  
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
