"The GT-R had been conceived with one goal in mind: to win in Group A motor racing and put Nissan at the top of the pile occupied by race cars like the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, BMW M3, and the big Aussie bruiser, the Holden Commodore…" [Andy Butler]

This is an official SAU event, to commemorate the 21st birthday of the R32 Skyline GT-R, with all SAUers welcome. Starting at Tench Reserve on the Nepean River, we will drive through the Blue Mountains National Park via Richmond, Bell, and Mount Victoria, ending up at the Edge Cinemas at Katoomba, where we have arranged a special, private screening of the highlights of the 1992 Tooheys Bathurst 1000, an unforgettable race which helped cement the R32 GT-R in Australian motorsport history.

Event Date: Sunday, 10th October, 2010 (10/10/10); 9.00 AM

Please note this event will go ahead rain or shine.

Cost: Cinema tickets are $15.00 per person, first come; first served. Maximum 10 tickets per person. Limit of 365 tickets available. If all tickets are sold out, you are more than welcome to join us for the cruise from Penrith to Katoomba via Bell.

Your $15 ticket includes cinema admission and a $1.50 donation to the Children's Hospital @ Westmead.

Driving Details:

Under SAU guidelines, it is absolutely essential that all drivers observe the road rules.

Here is the route map:

Approx 12.00 pm onwards:

Arrive at the Edge Cinema, Katoomba.

Entrance to the cinema is via a special off-ramp from the Great Western Highway (fine for cars with low ground clearance)

R32s will park in the upper car park directly opposite cinema entry doors.

R33s will park in remaining upper level spaces

R34s and other cars will park in the lower level (undercover) car park.

While you wait for the others to arrive, and before the session begins:

Our sponsors for the day, Just Jap of Kirawee will have plenty of goodies on display at their stall and Top Secret Imports of Blacktown will also be present with their car display.

A professional photographer from Performance Imports, and a camerman from Motive DVD will be covering the event. Look out for a feature in their upcoming magazines and DVDs.

SAU merchandise will be available too, e.g. caps, T-shirts, pit shirts, lanyards etc.

If enough people are interested, a hot/cold buffet can be arranged at The Edge. Otherwise light snacks are available.

1.30 pm SHARP:

Film begins: A special GT-R feature produced by Motive DVD, followed by the main attraction; highlights of the 1992 Tooheys Bathurst 1000.

Approximate length of entire feature: 2 ¼ hours

3.45 pm (approx):

Event ends. Exit to the cinema complex is via Civic Pl, which leads to the Great Western Highway (cannot exit the way we came in).

Payment:

Please send an email to [email protected] with your name, VISA or MasterCard details (card number, expiry and name on card), a contact number, and a delivery address for your allocated tickets and receipt to be posted via mail. Credit card details will be manually processed with safety. Tickets are transferable but not refundable. Bring your tickets for admission and door prizes! Tickets cannot be issued prior to payment being received. Tickets are on sale as of Saturday the 12th of June.

Other Notes:

If you want anything brought up from Just Jap or Top Secret Imports, call them beforehand and they will try to oblige. Say hello to our sponsors as they've donated more than $1,000 to the Children's Hospital already as sponsors of this 21st birthday of the R32 GT-R.

Special thanks go to Chevron / Channel Seven for their permission to publicly screen the highlights of the '92 Bathurst 1000, and to Motive DVD for permission to screen our special feature.

If you're not already a member of SAU, speak to one of our organisers who can help sign you up on the day.

We organisers from SAU look forward to seeing you there. And so too our sponsors.

GTRKat from ACT is looking forward to any of you from SA to meetup and convoy into Penrith.

She also has details of where to stay in Penrith where there is a security compound for your cars.

PM me if you need to enquire further.

And now, even the "BOOBY Prize" is worth over 100!!!

would kinda like to go but dont know if my car would make the distance trouble free haha! how many tickets left?

Hey Jeremy, lots sold so far, but plenty of tickets left mate; we've opted for the larger cinema at the venue. You've got a nice looking R32 there, would be great to see it on the day! PM Kat (GTRKat above) if you need any accommodation options - we can suggest a few good places, and we've got a few interstaters staying in the area too.

Cheers

Matt

Only two weeks until we kick off! smile.gif

Here are a couple of pics of what we're giving away as Major prize number 2 - a 1/18 scale die-cast model of the 1993 BP TRAMPIO R32 GT-R Group A race car, by AutoArt. Limited edition, one of 3,000 units and comes with a numbered certificate.

All the major prizes will also be accompanied by an engraved plaque to commemorate the occasion.

As we're celebrating the R32 GT-R, these awesome prizes will be targeted to R32s on the day - so particularly if you're bringing a 32, make sure she's waxed and looking beautiful on the day! smile.gif

Like all the major prizes this one will come with an engraved plaque to commemorate the occasion.

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
