hey guys,

i am moving to the gold coast next month to start a new job and was wondering if it was a good idea to go for rustproofing? I will be living about 5 mins from the beach, but working only about a minute to the beach. how does it work and how much does it cost? anybody on the coast have it?

A couple of my mates used to live on the Gold Coast Hwy at Palm beach. One had a 2001 lancer which he bought new while living their. He had it rustproofed as part of the deal when he bought it and till now hasn't had a problem. The other guy had a blue bird which was is in ok condition but when he moved to the coast turned into a rust bucket in about 2 years. He also bought a lancer in 2001, a 94 model 4dr and again within 2 yrs there was huge amounts of rust coming through the roof and other panels. When you live that close to the coast any extra protection against rust is a good thing I think.

i might start getting prices to get it done. in the mean time i will wash and wax every week...
Get used to washing with a bucket only, or taking it to carlovers. Severe watering restrictions here, so it's illegal to hose a car. My car gets washed only during heavy downpours at the moment (even the dealers aren't allowed to wash them when they service them anymore)

Yeah the surf life savers use a "plug into the chassie" type rust proofer, apparently works by flowwing voltage through the metal? I would be more inclined to use the traditional form of rust proofing, but only because I just cannt see how those other devices work?!?
