Noob Question (i'm New To Car Mods)

Hi people,

I'm very new with car mods, dyno testing ...etc and so i got some question to ask. (sorry if i'm posting this at the wrong place).

What is dyno tuning? Do i need to purchase any special parts for it? How much does it normally cost?

Also, where would be a good place to read up about car mods (for beginners).

Google it... and no any car can go on a dyno.. it just reads out power figures and a whole lot of other shit too that u hook up for other readings... example EGT (exhaust gas temp) n shit car mods... talk to ur nearest parts dealer and he will talk to u about what u want out of ur car.... pointless asking around here people will just make a fool out of u...

if your car has the stock ecu then there is very little that can be done on a dyno to tune the car. they can check the timing (which can be done without a dyno, all you need is a timing light), and they can check the air/fuel ratios to make sure things like your fuel pump is working properly, but other than that they can't really do anything to give you more power.

on the other hand, if you have an aftermarket ecu then they can alter all the timing and fuel settings to get you more power.

So from what I'm getting, an ecu upgrade is the starting point for modding yes?

Cause from what i've been reading on another forum, an aftermarket ecu + a y pipe seems to be able to increase the horse power abit... but then, it's always down to factory warenty....

hm... tbh, i don't really know where to start. I've been following a thread that handbrake started with his R35 mod and it looks kinda awsome. Would like to achive something like that in a long term period....

If you wanna know just the power etc, just go for a dyno day and do a few power runs. Dyno tuning is only useful if you can tune the ecu (as the name suggested), or if you can remap your ecu.

You're best to ask someone that's got knowledge on the 35gtr if you do own 1 as not many people know much about the mods available for the 35gtr. I would assume most ecu we're using (other gtrs) would not be compatible.

Also, ask yourself why are you doing this? Is the car not fast enough for you? Are you planning to track it? If not, I wouldnt bother touching it since they're an awesome car from factory.

The boys there arent wankers that'll laugh at you cause you are newbie.. Just doesn't sit right.. No offence if you're actually not some school kid..

Plus your spelling is shocking.. Someone who can afford a R35 should at least have some grammer form..
