ok so i have taken my r33 gtst off the road now n am getting a lil shit box to run around in,

but i want to rebuild the engine n shit with the help of a few mates that are mechanics,

so any way all i wanna do is make it stronger and more power but i dont need a redicilous amount of power so yeah i wanna upgrade the turbo and maybe run bout 19 psi, what will i have to change and replace so that the engine will be able to easily handle that?

i dont really no much so any help or advice would be nice,

and nooooo i dont want totake it to a machenic, i am doing this as a project and i am taking my time with it and it will be a good learning experience..

plzzzz help!

what turbo do you want to run? how much psi isn't really an indication of how much modding you will need to do. the stock turbo at 19psi wouldn't really need any modding at all (sdespite the fact that it would be a bad idea to run it at 19psi). a smaller hks turbo at 19psi would probably still be ok on 19psi as well.

it is more a question of how much power you want to make as to how much you need to rebuild, and what sort of parts you need to use. generally 300kw is up around the limit of reliability of the stock internals. you can certainly run much higher than 300kw with stock internals, but how long it lasts is a totally different story. it may last 6 months, it may only last till you hit redline in first gear the first time you give it the beans.

i found some wise words from turbonetics.com POWER:

• Think in horsepower not boost.

• Boost is just a number that you will have to run on your engine to make a certain horsepower.

• How much power do you want to make? Be realistic, the more accurate that you are, the better tuned your forced induction system will be.

• Can your vehicle (not just the engine, but the entire setup) handle such power?

• Remember the turbocharger is generally not the weakest link.

•Forged pistons, connecting rods, head studs, etc.

• “As much as possible” is not a goal.

i have and recommend turbonetics turbo chargers, prob a t3t4 or similar setup fo what you want..higher boost around 19psi, it would be recommended to forge the bottom end ect, but if your dollar concious you can get by with a copper or similar headgaskit, bigger fuel pump and injectors, a computer or retune/chip..full exhaust system, and of cause get the head checked out by a professional before reassembly, never hurts throwing in some new valve stem seals and gettni it checked over for peice of mind, but thats upto you... thats roughly a road ive taken before and turned out not to bad though i only ran upto 15psi, hope this helps, enjoy

hey thanks guys, that has given me a bit to think about lol, but we plan on rebuilding the engine coz its now done over 200,000 k's and the valves ar f**ked in it and we were gonna replace the head any way, would it be worth it to rebuild the whole engine thou? coz like i said, its done 200,000 k's n iv been told that thats the equivalent of 300,000k's on a commodore and commofores start fallin apart at that point haha,

so yeah, what to do???

and thanks again for your help and advice

but maybe you could recomend parts? parts that r stronger n will hold out longer?

thnx =D

200,000k's isnt that bad.. has nothing to do with 300,00k's on a commodore.. depends how it's driven over it's life..

Also you stated that your mates are mechanics? They should be able to explain it all to you.. If you got the money you could just forge the engine and upgrade everything.. All depends on thre power levels you want to make.. Maybe look in the For Sale section, you may find a built engine already, and save money.. Unless you want to do it yourself..
