Hey guys

im sorry if this is the wrong section, its the only vic related on i can find.

tomorrow at 12 im going for my p's, vic roads in sunshine. im 22, yeah i know, but i never really needed them because i was at uni. Now that i have a job i need to travel.

Anyway, i am shitting myself because i cant reverse parallel park for SH1T! Sometimes i do it awesome but others i cant for the life of me so im really stressed at the moment.

If i fail my test im going to lose my job :glare: which i am supposed to DRIVE to on monday. Its currently home base in niddrie but i have to go to other sites. I mainly only need it for work.

What can i do guys? I know i get 3 chances at trying to reverse paral'l park, if i fail all 3 im f**ked. Im a safe driver all around, just that i cant always get the parking :(.

Ive been driving almost every weekend since i was 19.

thanks

You might not have to do a reverse paralell park, isnt it still the testers choice of either point to point reverse, 3 point turn and paralell parking? I did my test 3 years ago so I'm not sure if this is still accurate. Also I only had 1 go to do the paralell park, not 3. I would practice the hell out of your parking tommorow get in that mind set and hopefully you'll pass.

Good luck.

I PRAY to god they choose 3 point turn! i have no more time to practice because the only car in the family is going to be used by my mum for work and im doing the test in her car afterwards. I meet her at vic roads.

If you wanna cheat a bit for your exam, adjust your passenger side mirror so that you can see the edge of the tyre when in normally seated position. This will save you from jumping the tyre up onto the curb which I'm pretty sure is a fail.

Other than that make sure your car is totally parallel with the road as you reverse, then turn your wheel enough to get the rear swinging towards the kerb at about a 45deg angle (this will vary depending on how tight the space you are parking into is).

Start straightening the wheel up so that the back gets close to but doesn't hit the kerb, your aim here is to get the car again parallel with the road.

Tips: Take your time, don't rush it there is no time limit. Also have a good idea of when your wheel is pointing straight so that you don't undo your good work.

Are you learning manual? in which case blip the throttle and feather a clutch to get the car moving a tiny bit at a time.

This is your fault you realise? You've had 4 years to get your P's and you leave it till the last minute.

Anyway, when it comes to reverse parallel parking you do realise you have like... 3 meters behind and in front when they do it? It's not like your everyday parallel park, they give you a HUGE amount of space. All you need to really worry about is hitting the curb.

Yeah they dont make you do it between 2 cars, i have heaps of room. I actually never hit the curb, i only usually come off short, meaning i stick out a bit or i dont turn the wheel enough whereas i hit the back of the car im parking behind.

Yes, im aware its my fault lol, but i did practice. i cant help being anxious.

i had to do the reverse park to get my p's, what ever you do never hit that gutter, its better to be further away from the gutter because you will only lose a couple points which is better than instant fail. this might help you but of course its way easier to show, this is what my instructor taught me and it works perfect everytime. ok here it goes:

drive past the spot you want to reverse into and line up with the car beside you, put it in reverse (of course) do one full turn of the steering wheel to the left and start moving backwards until you get to an appropriate angle, next turn the wheel one full turn back to the right and keep rolling backwards until you can see that the front of your car wont hit the back of the other also if done right your back tyres should be close to the concrete part of the gutter, than the final step is to do another full turn of the wheel to the right again and boom if done right you should fit into that parking spot perfectly. if you had a couple more days to practice this you will be fine, so if you can before your test get out and practice now lol.

Just adjust your passenger side mirror to point downwards - I have mine permanently like that for uber-fast parallel/reverse parking. You don't even use that mirror since you headcheck (or should be headchecking) on that side! Regularly check your rear vision mirror too as they're pretty anal about that. But you should be fine... the criteria that must be met in order to get your license is far from adequate in determining whether a person is competent enough to drive on public roads safely...

Good luck!

If you're backing in behind a car that's already parked I usually find it easy to line up next to the driver door of that car, as you reach the passanger door or rear seats full lock and do the deed as teK-- has said. It usually sets you up for a good start.

Maybe do a few practice parks with someone before you head in? It's pretty easy once you get the gist of how the angles work

Good luck, let us know how you go!

+1 for this, I always use another parked car as a starting point... from there on it's all geometry.. put your faith in mathemetics and you will get in every time

Its funny how there are people complaining about the testing.

Before my girlfriend went to take her test, i was sure she was gonna fail, but she passed, i don't know how it happened. So, don't worry and just do your best. There's SO MUCH SPACE for you to do your reverse parallel parking thingy that there's no way you're gonna fail, just dont mount the curb. People are saying its piss easy.

    • I should note too as I have all 4 wheel speed inputs to the emtron I now have the emtron controlling the attessa solenoid for 4wd/traction and launch control strategies.
    • It works quite well with the adjustibility within each of the programs of the turbolamik. Essentially p1 is drive and lockup comes on like a normal driver.  But in program 7 I have customised it to not request the lockup clutch to engage until something like 6500/7 when slip was the lowest.
    • Yep, I like that. The tags are only on the first post of a thread and we don't get huge numbers of new threads. Also, I plan to add some more report types and we could have a member report type like 'review tags' then members could flag if they thought a topic wasn't tagged correctly.  No way man, I dig the input. Thanks!
    • It's a valid thought. There's not exactly that functionality already (when creating a thread) - that's where the OP can use/create any tag they want. We'd have to come up with a way for the user to request their tags get reviewed or something. Otherwise the mods would have to review every new post's tags (for those that have them, anyway). There's kind of that functionality already exists to some extent, post facto of starting the thread, where the OP or any other user could report the post to admins, and request that tags get reviewed. We could do this already, and any user could already have made such a request. To make it a part of the forum proper, it would require an initial and an ongoing education programme, so that people know that it's a thing. OP based tagging/request for review would also require at least some (probably most) of the user base to be told that it's a thing they can do. Both of these things probably wouldn't spread too far and/or get used very much. If it was the standard approach on a lot of different sites, then it might do, because people would be used to it. Prank's approach to this differs from my original thought, by leaning into tagging. Which is fine - it's possibly better than what I originally suggested. In fact, I just went to the R32 GTR wiring diagram thread and added tags, including "Library". That's probably a good way to use tags and the idea of a library. We just have to drag together an (organised!) index of threads or posts that have that tag. I have yet to do any of my own follow up by pursuing worthy threads and posts and reporting/marking/tagging them for the library, such as the @Sydneykid stuff I was talking about, and possibly any amount of @Lithium 's and others' posts. At least if I tag them Library, we'll have a start.   Back to @Wazmond's idea as it relates to @PranK's, we might have some sort of a list of tags that are already used to scrape for this library. I'm not entirely sure how that would be presented or used, particularly if it got long. But it's yet another idea!   cheers
    • Just a thought, but instead of restricting, is it possible to do like an "up for review" kind of thing? Where say someone who's not an admin/mod tags, it would require approval for it to actually tag? User posts with a 'tag' > Admin/Mod Reviews > Approves tag > Tag now exists kinda thing? Just came across this thread so Im not too sure if Im straying off topic or not but forgive me if i am...
