Hey guys,

Im currently in the process of building a 26/30 for my R33 GTST, Ive got a Spool Imports RB30 Block, and BU5TERS old RB26 head, HKS 280 PRO cams, ported, Tomei springs etc etc. I was just wondering what turbo setup to go with.

I was thinking either T04Z or HKS T51R.. Dont want a massive lag monster, but some is acceptable. What kind of RPM will the T51R come onto full boost? Also the T04z?

Havent really seen many 26/30's with HKS T51r on them, or know much info about when boost hits etc.

Cheers, Matt

if you have the head from bu5ter why not ask its previous owner, bu5ter ran a T51R for ages.

600+ and ill be more then happy! In terms of turbo lag, i would like it to be on boost before 5000rpm.

Have also PM'd Bu5ter, but no response, dont think hes on here that often anymore.

How much power do you want?

That will dictate what turbo/how much lag you need to deal with

Cheers guys!

Yeah, ive always loved the T51R spool noise! T04Z on full? boost by 4000rpm is pretty good.

Im leaning towards the T51R, alot of people have said dont bother with the T04z, but then again, vice versa.

As long as its on boost before 5000rpm ill be reasonably happy with the result! I Spose time will tell!

Cheers!

I'm also interested in this.. I don't have the money for it right now but I'd like to see results. Does the SPL take much longer to spool? or is it something else because it doesn't cost much more bus has 200ps more than the KAI

Also are there any twin setups that could get close to this power and i mean from a fully worked 30

twin 2860-10's can get 450-500kw, if thats not enough you could go twin GT30's but you need to get creative to make it all fit.

Thanks for that titan, now do you think those twins will have better response than a big single.. I know generally thats the case, but would it be in this particular case with those twins with a stroked, ported bigger cams ect ect head

And if one were to go the GT30 option.. what GT30 would suit best

if you want 440rwkw you'd be hard pressed to go past a set of HKS 2530s or HKS GT-RS. the 2530s will easily make 400rwkw and could make the 440 with some serious boost. the GTRS will make it easily. and either of those set-ups will be miles more responsive than a T04Z or a T51R. same power and much better response. I know which I'd go with. the only downside is the twins are a bit more difficult to work on. look at the Advan/Hi-Octane GTR. it makes more than the power you want and still uses small low mount twins. amazing response in it too.

there is a dude on the forums who has a twin 3037 setup in a 32r

1001hp and sub 9 sec quarters good enought for ya.

whats the difference between a gt42r and a t51r spl there both rated at 1000hp but which would be better for a drag r34 with a 26/30 in it i was pretty set on the 42 until reading this thread.

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
