Hey guys,

not due for a service for around 5,000km but i thought id gain some info etc before hand. Im debating whether or not to take it to Nissan direct or local performance shop to get log book servicing...

What are your experiences in particular and are they cluey enough to do things like using fully synthetic oils etc?

Thanks in advanced.

Given there are a whole 3 people with V35s associated with the SA section of SAU I would say this post is inappropriate in the SA forum. I will move it to the "V"" section of SAU.

In answer to your question I service mine myself, but when it comes time to do major services it will be going to Nissan, as they know these things inside out, and I assume almost nobody else in SA has even touched a VQ35 before.

too bad u r in SA....in VIC, it definitely has to be City Nissan hands down...I've taken my car there twice, and twice I have found the pricing very 'down to earth'.....

I got my belts done for the same price as I would have at Ultra Tune...

My service was comparable to Midas and Ultra Tune...

They charged me peanuts to change my CVT oil...

I just don't bother doing mechanical/sevicing things myself anymore these days; unless I really need to....

while Nightcrawler may not have the best opinion of Sinergy Motorsports (perhaps only from the carsale side of things, no disrespect intended) my recommendation would be Sinergy as they have had lots of experience importing and servicing V35's over the years (including mine). otherwise a number of my Zed owning friends have been going to Unley Nissan from new. both have the VQ35 so really either location will be fine for general servicing

How much do they charge for a normal service like oil change, filter change and the usual stuff?

Oh yeah forgot to mention that Main North Nissan is an SAU:SA club sponsor, so if you become an SAU:SA member for $45 (and $30 per annum thereafter) you get 10% off everything. Craig is head of the parts department there and is a Skyline NUT, so has always looked after me on parts etc and said I was welcome to bring in my old R34 or now the V35 for servicing/repairs.

Ah sweet,

thanks nightcrawler. I think i might stick with local performance shop though, they did an oil change for me when i first got the car it only cost me $140. That was for fully synth oil, greddy filter and of course an hour of labour. I downloaded the 350z service schedule from Nissan main site so i'll get them to follow that, though it may be overkill since i'll struggle to do 5,000kms per 6mths.

haha 5000ks in 6months.

my v would love that sort of treatment.

i get 5000ks in 6-8 weeks. =P

As per my post above, Main North Nissan has a Skyline nut at the head of the parts department, and offers 10% discount on all products as SAU:SA sponsors .... but I had dealing with North East Nissan (same owner) before they moved (to become Lakeside Nissan), and found them to be below par imho.

Wow, I use Main North Nissan heaps, and I'm an SAU:SA member - I never knew we got discounts .. d'oh .. I reckon I've spent at least $500 with them in parts for my N14 and R34 in the last 3 months alone too :bunny:

... I guess this explains why I'd always gotten a great resposne from their mechanics/etc when i brought my R34 down though - always happy to source parts from Japan, and I got them to fix my drivers-side power window and they seemed to know everything and take care of it no problems ..

I too can put in a good word for Lakeside Nissan on Main North Road. I have been taking my V35 there since I got it, and have had no problems with any of the work they have done. I did once have a minor issue with some damage the car sustatined while being serviced (small gouge in spoiler) which they repaired for me at no cost and minimal fuss. Cant say much for prices though as my V is salary sacraficed through work and I get fleet prices :bunny:

I live in brisbane and nissan deals near me said they dont touch imports .... and seemed very un helpfull and couldnt give me any sujestions as to where to go, tho i did speak to a really nice guy in spare parts for the A/C and P/S belts

I have a 350 GT8 with the paddle shift and get it serviced at Main North Nissan. When I first went there and spoke with the service guy he told me they just followed the maxima service schedule and pricing.

I was surprised by the number of parts they can source from other Nissans that are interchangeable, and considering the engine is the same as the Zed, you wouldn't think it would be a problem.

I was speaking to the parts guy and they have access to all the V35 manuals for all parts. Been looking at ditching my Bose stereo and getting an after market and he was able to find all the facia and parts to do the swap. Prices were reasonable when you compare chasing all the stuff on the internet yourself, but through them everything is direct from Nissan Japan and covered by full Nissan parts warranty. Don't get that if you buy from anyone else.

West point Nissan up at Indro say that tehy can do imports.

Who do you use?

If you need someone, Id greatly suggest Craig at Carmen Auto up at Brendale. Greeat guy and knows these cars, has a 300gt himself i think.

Just gave City Nissan Service a call and got a voice message saying City Nissan has ceased business as of 14th July. Not what sure what happened to them??

What number did you ring up?

Direct number for their service dept is 03 8383 8888. (or main reception is 03 8383 1111)

Hope this would help~

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
