just a quick one... my V came with 5 years warranty. i have to get it serviced every 10k kms thats $330. major is $1k+

i dont want to sound like a cheapskate but im thinking of voiding it and servicing it myself...at the end of the day it will work out much cheaper and YOU know what fluids are ACTUALLY getting changed and knowing the fact that no d*ckheads are doing a (thrashing) test after the service with your car. this excludes the major but again i think the major could also be done yourself...

what are your thoughts guys?

ok..so I am not the only sucker to pay for the 5 yr warranty? LOL.....it costed me $600....

Anyway, read the fine print of the warranty..they cover for up to something like $3k for repairs (from memory)...

if I had the option to pick again, I would have kept the $600 in my warm pocket...

so, in short, I dun think the warranty gets voided if you do things yourself, as long it's not a modification perhaps? check your Terms & Conditions on the warranty...

yeah my old R33 had 3 yr warranty cos i got it from a dealer...

never actually had to use it and it doesnt cover any mods. and may be void if you mod your car.

and nelson's right with the limit on certain parts so it won't be a full refund...

at the end of the day I am not getting any warranty whatsoever with my V35 and just service it at my local Nissan dealer. minor if just oil change is under $300 major is about $600-700 - don't think I ever seen $1k yet.

good thing VQ engine uses chain not timing belt so it saves you that usually $800-ish cost to change timing belt at 100,000km. the chains I was told are meant to last like at least 300,000km which is almost the lifetime of the vehicle.

other minor belts (a/c, p/s) still need to be changed though but they're peanuts, like $100-200ish

The v35 wasn't my first import and i didn't opt for extra warranty - almost useless imho. Modding voids it (why would i buy an import/skyline lol), there's limits to the claim you can do and they can void it if you haven't kept out logbook stamping.

I just downloaded a G35 service schedule, purchased oils/fluids from the performance workshop i goto and do things myself or call my personal mechanic and he does harder stuff. Changing oil and filter (i.e. minor service) costed me $130 or so and that was using royal purple oil.. Was cheaper afterwards when i moved to castrol edge oil.

im with AWN. with every service i need to send in an invoice slip to them....looks like ill stop from now on and do my own service... have read the fineprints and yes they do cover quite abit, but its just not worth it if i dont intend to thrash it soo much...

Also have a 3 year warranty plan when i purchased my V from a import dealer and apparently you have to send off the service invoices too and logbook stamped.

Have always serviced my own cars and now cause of the warranty, its more out of my pocket maintenance wise. Guess I'll stick with it for a little while just in case.
