So they rejected an insurance opportunity with me on my new GTR because I have lost my license 3 times in the past 5 years.

Mind you 5 years is a long time and this country is THE anal place of the world for road laws.

Just wondering...have you guys had similar experience with insurance companies based on poor speeding history?

or do you all have clean driving histories and i should think about canceling my deposit on my GTR?

5 years might be a long time...but 3 times in 5 years is a bit extreme

maybe you should learn the difference between a drag strip and chappel st

never taken my car to chapel st at night mate

never dragged my car

you clearly dont live in Victoria where cops wait at the bottom of a hill in a 60k zone and pull you over when you accidentally hit 70 or 75.

you clearly have never driven on a 80k road where you get pulled over going 85 (but lo and behold the 40k signs from the construction workers were left out on the weekend even though they arent working) and so you lose your license.

Make accusations like that and you look the fool.

I Beleive Just Car are more lenient in terms of driving history mate, Shannons can be an absolute pain in the ass to get insurance out of perhaps just ring and ask... without dropping your details or do an online quote... without your actual details just so you can get an idea of the various insurers and the effect your driving history will have on your ability to buy insurance from them, plus its impact on your premiums.

As for not buying the car, only do that if you can literally not find insurance for it.... if you dont buy an awesome car because your worried about losing your licence in it... the terrorists win.

Well i did live in vic a few years ago, so I know what its like, Yet I managed to never get done for speeding or anything for that matter.

I FYI if the 40k signs are still out at a work site than the speed limit is 40 :)

Its a glass of cement, and harden the fark up

Maybe try just car insurance.

Yeah id like to harden the f**k up but not sure if my wallet can

Just car quoted $5000 a year and $12,000 excess

*sigh* I do believe the terrorists are winning.

Have to agree with Amer, there are some shit circumstances down here in Vic that can land you without a licence.

Just because it hasn't happened to you before does not mean it cannot happen.

I say keep ringing around. If you can't find insurance then of course cancel...there will surely be someone who is willing to take you on for a large excess/premium.

Holy Jesus mate, thats pretty much criminal, have you tried tying it in with your house insurance or something like that Just call up whoever does your general insurance (House etc) and say you want to have your car with them also, and if they dont insure you or give it a ludicrious premium say you think youl take your business elsewhere.

At the end of the Day it is the insurance companys decsion if they want to insure you.

They make an assement on based on many things like your age and driving history.

Having lost your liscence 3 times in the past 5 years obviously means you didnt learn your lesson the first and second time and they see it as being a massive risk to them as you are driving a 180k Vehicle.

70 to 75KM/h in a 60 zone. Downhill or not, you sir are a fool!

Secondly, 85KM/H in a 40Zone!

The construction workers do not HAVE to be at the site for it to be a construction zone, even if it is 3AM on sunday morning!

your photo...and your car....I NEED NOT SAY ANY MORE

cheers fool

Well considering how much parts can cost in the 35gtr, the excess MIGHT not be as bad as you think.

I know how bad Vic is and there nothing you can do about it. If Just Car quote is that, I doubt theres anyone else that will beat it (other than Shannon IF you can get them).

SO lets see here, you can afford a cars thats $180k yet you dont wanna pay 5k a year for insurance, are you going to be able to pay for tyres, brake pads, trans fluid etc?

my guess is no you wont be able too, or is paying 600 dollars a tyre criminal too? so you will run around on $150 nankangs or somthing

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
