I just wondering if theres any cheap (non brand name) boost controlers out there that are still proper PID controllers. When I say PID I mean for example the eboost with the 3 tuneable parameters sp, gb and sn, these are the proportional, integral and derivative gain terms I imagine. This allows you to allow the gate to open exactly at the right time giving faster spool up over no boost controller, a bleed valve or just a plain electronic one with duty cycle vs revs gain only.

I know theres plenty of other good brand name EBCs out there but they are all $400+, was just wondering if there was something generic out there eg like the jaycar EBC but still allows you to tune all 3 parameters for ultimate boost control and you aren't paying for the brand name?

Just looking at using a bleed valve for now as I can't justify the $400 for the tiny increase in spoolup time and electronic boost cut protection.

Even if you don't know of any generic devices out there if people could list some of the cheaper brand name models that have this functionality that would be fantastic.

After reading the manual it looks like it only has one gain setting, so perhaps it is not a proper PID controller or maybe it hides these settings from you? You can only change 'offset' according to this manual:

Where as the eboost has 3 settings, one is the gain level for your max boost, and then two other parameters, which let you increase the sensitivity so it ramps boost up faster and harder, and another to control the sensitivity so that it doesn't oscillate.

Maybe I will just have to save up and get an eboost second hand.

Eboost aren't Pid or even pi controllers. Where do you enter your desired boost level? Any reason it needs to be a pi based controller - there's very few on the market. Give me an avcr any dayof the week.

No reason I just figured it would give better control than a plain simple proportional gain controller. The fact that it had multiple parameters you could tune is what made me think this was the case.

Guess I will have to read some more reviews and find out what are the better EBCs then.

Agreed yet so many over here for some reason think other wise.

I do not believe the claims that it can not hold boost stable.

get an apexi avcr or an hks evc 4 .

both can be had for under $200

wtf do you want to fiddle with ramp for ? avcr is closed untill just before it reaches target boost . = max ramp rate , do you want it slower?

People were claiming up to 500rpm decrease in spool time with some of the better EBCs, I thought this was due to the type of controller they were, turns out pretty much anything electronic will be better than a bleed valve and can keep it closed until just before you hit full boost.

If you can build the Jaycar kit they are value for money (can sometimes pick them up second hand). You can adjust boost against injector cycle (not revs) and put in 2 switchable maps (don't know why people want 2 maps). Only got rid of mine because of change to Link and sep w/g ( Link will control boost).

Yes you are wrong - as above - the boost is adjusted with a hand controller against the duty cycle of the injectors (not the rpm - big difference) . Input = injector cycle, output = solenoid cycle.

It is possible to get rock solid 16psi for example. It does not have facility for automatic temperature adjustment but you could manually adjust the boost settings at the track to suit the ambient temps.

It is possible to adjust speed of boost build.

    • Small update, it's been slow moving over the Christmas period with money having to go everywhere thats not my car 😅. I got myself a little present to myself from "santa" in the form of some tidy radiator mounts from fitmint automotive to get rid of the stock ones that look like they have been in an accident before and then straightened by a caveman. I know I should've replaced the rubber bush at the same time but I had no idea how bad they were until I was replacing the mounts. Decided to order their dash mat while I was at it as I feel like I am lucky enough to have a pretty decent condition dash and I don't want to risk it being ruined while it's parked in the aussie sun while I'm at work. I have found another electrical fault to add to the evergrowing list to eventually chase down. Every time I replace my taillight globe it blows within a day of use, I'm starting to think my life would be easier if I took a few minutes to learn how to use  a multimeter 😂.   Had some luck with finding a series 2 drivers headlight on marketplace to replace my mismatched series 1 headlight, a subtle difference but it's nice to have a matching set of lights now.   I returned to the air con problem due to being sick of this summer heat, found a good condition condenser to replace my leaking one! I got it in the car and was happy when I got the thumbs up that the system was now holding gas. Sadly the compressor is not kicking in for some reason, we even tried branching the relay in the fuse box. I have tried to do some research on the issue with no clear understanding of what the fix is, so for now it will be placed on the backburner until I can be bothered to look into the wiring to the compressor. The last small mods I have done was cutting the horizontal vents out of the front bar, not really in a functional airflow sense but I just think it looks better as I am not a fan of the series 2 bar. I also switched the shift knob out for a hosoboyo aluminium grex style one, it has a really nice more direct driving feel than the outdated rubbery oem one. Thirdly, I chucked on one of the ebay bonnet strut kits. The fitment is decent and they seem to work fairly well. They have only given out once while the car was parked facing downhill, I think if I was working under the bonnet I would still put the oem hood stay up to be precautionary as to avoid getting a speedy concussion.
    • Got pneumonia, haven’t played with her in a while, but I’m back now. Previous owners cut bonnet pins into the bonnet. My choice try find a replacement or spend $15 get some pins myself to cover up. Now only one small hole to cover. looks shit now, but when the bonnet is red again. Be good 🤞
    • No R32 GTSt had 15" wheels. 205/55-16 was standard GTSt fare. 4.36:1 is standard R32 turbo auto diff. I think the manual was too, not 4.11. 4.11 and 4.08 were R33 namual and auto respectively.
    • Well found out it’s a 60th anniversary gtst from that it came with 205-55r15
