First of all, just wanna say, I am a Supra owner, so the flame suit is up :whistling:.

I don't know about you guys here but I'm a frequent of the supra forum (supraforums.com.au/forum), and we do appreciate Skyline owners joining up and showing us their pride and joys, so for anyone who cares pics of my car particular can be found here: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=61284.

Now for my question:

I live in the Newcastle area (5 mins north of Raymond Terrace to be precise). I have been looking around forever for someone I can trust to respray my car. A few people have recommended Georges paint and panel as a great guy who really knows what he's doing, so I dropped around there the other arvo, had a good talk, he gave me some great advice, he does indeed seem to know what he was talking about.

However he took me inside the booth to have a look at the current project there, inside was a black R32, blue pearl through it from memory. The car was by no means finished the had it stripped back and 2 coats of primer on there by the looks of it.

I was just wondering if the owner of this car is on here, or maybe someone knows of him? As I would like to meet up with them if possible to have a good look at the work done by this particular guy.

On another note, I have nothing against Skyline drivers, I give a smile and a nod if one of you guys notices me, but lately I've had a few real assholes. One in particular in Raymond Terrace on Sunday arvo, I was doing nothing stupid, again gave a smile and a nod, and got a death stare I am certain no woman could produce. I know I'm just being an idiot here I don't really care, just worth saying .

Thanks for any comments/pointing in the right direction!

Cheers,

Jacob

I still forget that I dont own a skyline, and wave and nod to others but yes, I get some weird looks - perhaps they think Im gay and trying to pick em up with my wiggles mobile hahaha but all good! I normally give a smile and a nod to good cars, well, what I think is good and 95% of the time get a nod back!

Thats what I think, who cares what you drive! Sure I prefer Supras but I don't death stare Skyline drivers just because they prefer Skylines!

Cheers for that anyway, hopefully someone around the area will know of him :whistling:.

Back in my in-between Supra stage I forgot too and gave a wave to Supra drivers, yes got some funny looks, especially considering I was in a Daihatsu Charade! 3 cylinder FTW!

Ive given up waving to other Supra drivers on the roads, not one wave back - i guess they're mostly too cool for school :D

Eh must work both ways then. If one of you guys gave me a wave I would give a wave back, not just give a glaring look back...

For example passed a purple 34GTR a few weeks back, gave him the thumbs up out the window, he just glared back, I'm like what the hell?

So no-one knows of this Skyline?

PS N1GTR, if you see MY-97-SZ give me a wave, I'll be sure to wave back :).

I still love the Supras but they still look like whales :D

Haven't seen that many but those Yanks sure did know how to build a couple back in the days. Got any pics?

Haha yeah I've had a few have a go at the car for looking a bit like a whale, personally I don't see it but a lot of people seem to think so.

Mate pics are in the link on the first post: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=61284.

You have to look at the backside for the whale impression :P

All you need now are some BBS dishes to go with the soup :D :D

Love the colour on your supra :)

Cheers mate, the colour is RSP (Royal Sapphire Pearl). Its pretty rare and sought after (only very few is Aus) so I'm definitely one lucky guy.

Thats one HOT Supra, still love them heaps =)

Thanks! So I'm assuming you previously owned a Supra?

You have to look at the backside for the whale impression

Hahaha I see what you mean, it definitely looks like something very fat from behind .

Awesomely clean :)

Thanks mate, lots of bits on the paint that I'm annoyed about thus the respray.

1. Did you ask the guys supporting the booth who might have his number? Any other noticeable traits that the car might have? wheels? model type? etc.

2. Not all Skyline owners are assholes and if they are it has nothing to do with the car anyway. Like the other day on the forum I asked innocently how a rear panel was done on a particular car and the kid just gives me an attitude, wow he's got internet power!!

Nah didn't notice much on the car, only the colour he said it was getting painted in, and that is was a 32, apart from that the car was pretty much pulled apart and covered in blankets.

I am maybe going back there tomorrow arvo, if so I'll just ask to see the car when it is finished, surely he will understand...

Yeah I know you're not all like that... I will freely admit that some Supra drivers are just as bad, if not worse, and yes we get the same keyboard warriors on supraforums.com.au, but they don't last long lol.

Ive given up waving to other Supra drivers on the roads, not one wave back - i guess they're mostly too cool for school

i got this from skyline drivers when i first got my 33. and there were much less of them around at that time. some gave dirtys. others thought it was a race challenge. douchebags.

so i stopped bothering. i couldnt take the rejection :verymad:

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok so respray will be coming sooner than expected, after being majorly keyed:

http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/attach...mp;d=1277942948

People that do this kind of thing deserve to die...

Just thought I'll keep this thread updated just in case it turns out good and anyone else in this area is looking for someone capable to do a respray.

    • Well, I was going to say, "Is the wastegate set up so that it is not leaking?" That's actually a different thing to what you're asking about. In theory, if you have allowed the two halves of the manifold to commmunicate (more than the stock manifold does - which is at least a little bit) then the negative effect should be apparent in delayed spool, not in outrigth power. OK, maybe just maybe, a badly set up twin scroll wastegate "crosstalk" might kill the top end, although it's hard to see how. What is happening with the original wastegate in the turbo? is it sealed off properly. If it's left flapping in the breeze, it will f**k everything up. If it is still there, and can be returned to service, I'd be capping off the external (presuming the two halves can and will be isolated from each other after doing so) and have a go with just the stock wastegate. I have an internal wastegate in my highflowed rear housing. The bigger opening and flapper should be fine to >250 rwkW. So there's not exactly a pressing reason to have the external. Done right, an external will give better results. Done wrong, it might just be possible to have worse results. Report back!
    • Hi Rob It's a nistune ecu. Yes same shop, good reputation. Apparently the computer on the dyno is compensated for temperature.    Chris was saying that the lean or richness of the mixture would be covered in the actual tune, but he's already picking up in advance that it's under what it should be. Regards the dyno, it's also noticeable on the road. But I just want to add something that has just come in, it appears there might be something in the setup of the external wastegate. In the exhaust manifold there is a centre divider between the front three and rear three cylinders. The external wastegate has a pipe from each side that join at the wastegate. Theory is those two pipes just might be pypassing that divider and introducing a problem somehow. Is anyone familiar with the divider in the exhaust manifold and the effects if the two wastegate pipes were to create a bypass path? Thanks for your questions Rob, interested in your thoughts on this external wastegate bypass theory. Regards Rob
    • Meh, At 60 years old, I have been doing dumb stuff for much longer than you mate, I am the true King And unfortunately I cannot be a maroon, as I am not brownish red As for not getting ITB's, the plenum intake will apparently show typical gains across the board and increase induction noise a bit, but, have all over less dort than ITB's Cost difference for the extra ITB dorts was significant though, the total parts for the plenum set up is "around" $2kAUD plus shipping, the ITB's were $4kAUD plus shipping, I was contemplating really hard about paying the extra $2k for all of the dorts, but weirdly, some form of common sense, from listening to the platform experts prevailed  As for the NA mod hate by some, I've had a few boosted cars, with all their inherent issues, I'm now looking at simplicity and legalities for a street car, maybe I'm just getting old, and I'm quite happy to spend some of the kids inheritance, 5kw at a time 🤣 And think of all the money I'll be saving on consumables that something with boost needs, like engines, gearboxes, diffs, clutches,  tilt trays... etc. etc. etc. 🤪
    • Haha.  I wouldn't say I am either but I've definitely been around it plenty.  I'm guessing you know the dial in is basically to make a handicap to level the playing field between racers.  The car with the slower dial in goes first and in theory if they run their dial in time and the faster car also does then they cross the finish time if they also have exactly the same reaction time - if you go faster than the dial in them you lose, but if you are too slow there's a good chance the other person will get to the finish line first. I'm normally supporting other cars but they were all pretty dialled and were egging me on to race as well, here's one of the cars I tune (Starlet) which ran within like 1 hundredth of its dial in through the competition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inEBu-d9Gn4&t=69s
    • Where ever the fuel reg gets it reference is what I use to T into for map reference been a very long time so where it goes to plenum/runners I have no idea but never had issues.
