Hello all,

I think its time my front brakes get freshened up, after some research ive decided to hunt down a pair of DBA 4000 series rotors, i have been quoted roughly 300 each though :P so thats 600 for the fronts only, arghh aint that rich just yet.

Where in perth can i find a better deal? If anyone knows, let me know, will save me alot of time looking around

im also stuck on what pads to run, if anyone wants to share their experiences with a decent set of pads id appreciate some advice on that also, basically dont want squeeling/excess noise but i want them to take a beating when duty calls

cheers.

PM Clint (Username: monga), his prices are really good on all his stuff :P

*EDIT* I also use EBC Greenstuff pads, I find them excellent! Really nice and quiet on the street, and still very very bitey! Haven't tried Yellowstuff but they eat into your rotors a bit more so I will just stick to Greenstuff seeing as my car is mainly a daily.

I dont know wtf pads i have on my car atm, but im sure as hell gonna try find another pair. I havent changed them in ages i.e. 1.5 years, they still have meat on them, no noise, not alot of dust, use the car every day and occassionally on the track.

I realise that doesnt help you at all, but i had to share.

i had some lucas pads on my r34, which had 32 gtr brakes up front, even though they were as dusty as hell, i was actually quite happy with the initial bite they had, however cutting down from high speed, wasnt all that amazing, or maybe i just want too much from my brakes haha.

excess dust is a bitch though, i thought id be able to put up with it, but it really does get annoying after a while

EBC are like $200+ for a pair of fronts, PASS. I suggest to the OP to actually read the braking/suspension so many topics on brake pads.

$300 each for slotted rotors for R33 gtr sounds about right, doubt you'll get much better than that.

I managed to source them for 180 each through my clutch supplier, it seems theres quite alot of mark up on these somewhere along the line :P. He told me he will have them in by 2 weeks though which is good timing for me anyway as my brakes at the moment are still fine. Getting my car tuned next week so I will have to just take it easy hehe

I have read the brake pad threads extensively quite some while ago but i just keep comming accross mixed reviews on the same product which confuse me, probably because everyone has different expectations from their brakes as their driving styles are different.

Thanks for the input though.

WOW thats good price , my 2 main suppliers are $229inc n $245inc . Might need to hook up with your guy , do 10k a yr in slotted stuff alone .. he must be paying about 140-150 ea inc :D

Haha i was scared of this, got people asking me who my supplier is now >.<

If your serious about it bart pm me and i can hook you guys up, im guessing you deal through Perth brake parts? i gave them a call and gave me the exact same price as what u wrote above.

    • Thanks for the info. The only "Issue" I've had with the shifter is I always found the throw between 4th and 6th gear too close. I'm always worried to shift into 4th accidently and sending my motor to the moon. Adam LZ recently came out with a video and stated Serialnine revised their shifters to correct this and will change all the revised parts for 150$. Strangely enough, I contacted Serialnine right after and they denied it and said it's bullshit. I found that strange as he's a distributer. I'll keep this forum post updated on that saga.
    • Yep that is correct. It allows you to adjust the short throw range from what I can tell
    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.
    • 75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.
    • Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet
