Here are some results from a Wellington workshop:

A basic example of somthing we have tested at work.

RB30DET, usual standard mods, GT3582R. with a .63 on 14psi it made 300kw. with a .82 it made 330kw, though boost came on 500rpm later.

On 18psi the .63 made 350kw, where as the .82 made 375kw (could have made more but the power was more then enough for a street car)

The owner with the .82 exhuast housing, is looking to down size as the car isn't as responcive as he would like 4000rpm full boost.

Yeah true for 25kw I would prob prefer 500rpm of response.

lil update:

got spool rods

mahle pistons to suit rb30det builds -86.5mm

twin plate clutch

bosch 044 setup for in-tank

waiting on machine shop before i buy bearings incase i need to oversize etc

i went to a few tuners in perth they all said will make 500rwhp BUT i only have 555cc injectors which they all say i'll need to bigger AND so much contraversy about the 1.06, 1 bloke tells me to keep it one says go .63 another .82! haha so conflicting

Edited by Char

trying get this done before perth powercruise! (2 months!) so yeah, hopefully the 555s will hold up, dont really have time/cbf changing injectors

ovaboost suggested .63 hes running twin gt3540's in his 2jz LJ torana both with .63 making something like 800rwhp?

ovaboost are gonna be tuning it, thing is he doesnt like to run past 20psi boost (on pump fuel)

-going to go hunt the dyno section now for gt3540s 1.06 :D

sure in a twin setup you could use the 0.63 but for a single setup stick with the 0.82 or the 1.06 (the 1.06 should make more power at lower boost from memory, though its ~400-500rpm more lag than a 0.82 so expect it to be on ~20psi at around 4000rpm with a good setup)

Who is doing the machining? I'm not holding my breath for the 32 to be ready for Powercruise so making sure the wagoon is skid worthy :D

nice!

its going in this week to hitech cylinder heads acid batch bore-hone- balance etc regular bits n pieces,

gonna strip the head also- not sure which one i'll use series 1 or series 2

ALSO the bloke wants to use an rb30 cometic head gasket

see how it goes

just make sure you keep a close eye on the price, i used the same bloke to weld the vct feed on my 25 head and he changed his quote 3 times. also ignore anything he says about compression

evening,

i heard been working my through the rb30 thread so know basically what im looking at, just want some ppl in the know ie-YOU to give me some advice/opinions on my current plans :D

microtech lt10's, garrett gt3540 1.06r, turbosmart 38mm gate-screamer, 555cc's, 040 intake pump, rb25 box, greddy ebc, etc etc the regular supporting mods.

im hoping for atleast 450rwhp

any advice would be great

head:

stock. with internal mod.

im undecided which rb25det head to use as i currently have 3 in my posession, 2 series 1 heads and 1 series 2.

plans so far for the Block:

-Mahle forged rb30det pistons with rings n pins

need help deciding between either 86.5mm (20thou) or 87mm (40thou)

my machinist recommends the 87mm..

-stock rb30e rods

-acid bath, hone, bore, balance

-harmonic balancer?? stock 25? 30?

-King or ACL bearings, i was going for ACL but my machinist told me to get kings as their "cheaper and better"

-rb25det pumps

-head gasket undecided

my block party

the series 2 head -stripped acid bathed, crack tested

cheers

after getting ripped off by hitech cylinder heads and them not doing the work they were meant to do what with: buying wrong timing belt, not putting clutch on, or timing belt, tensioners, cams gears, they drilled a hole in the cylinder head (instead of the internal feed like they were meant to) they also didnt tap the hole, they didnt supply any hoses for the extenal feed or connectors, didnt relocate the tensioner above the water pump etc etc + kept increasing their price and abused me other day when i told them i want them to pay for some of the work that ovaboost have had to do that i already paid him for!

-Mick at ovaboost told me that last week Tony from hitech called him to ask how to do an rb25/30 because he has someone else's engine sitting in his shop right now.

i really hope its no one from here.

in some good news! got a call form ovaboost today saying it has excellent compression on all cylinders and after all the work they have had to do to the engine and few issues with exhaust manifolds and some custom fab work, its nearly ready to start! will post a dyno result soon ;)

This is probably a bit late in the piece but ive had both a .82 and 1.06 setup on my rb30. The spool time difference is so negligable that id reccomend the 1.06 every time. The .82 was snappy and use to make the car wheelspin everywhere, whereas the 1.06 comes on more progressively.

I havent had them dynoed back to back as the car cracked the oil pump on the dyno but will in the next few months.

By the way, get a better turbo manifold, bigger wastegate and think about mounting the gate out the exhaust housing. I spent ages trying to get my boost control perfect and in the end put a 48mm Turbosmart gate out the housing. Boost control is perfect now. Should have done it earlier.

Engine specs

rb30det with 32 head

cam gears with performance springs valve springs

sinco customs manifold (similar to 6boost)

link ecu

mitsi evo 3 coils running wasted spark

8.5 compression - standard rebuild

310kws on the old housing at 18psi

    • interestingly enough, i found out the answer is yes. doing a flush did fix my recurring A/T light. it might have been because of the trans filter: but that doesn't really make sense to me. the fluid/filter was super dirty. would that increase the pressure in the lines and trigger an A/T light? does the car even have a way of detecting that? i have no idea. i've done 200+ miles after the flush and no A/T light. if my A/B solenoids went bad, i would think the light would've come on. shifts and drives way better now though...at 2k rpm instead of 2500...no hesitation and downshifts when i want it to.
    • I vote go red. Only because I hate keeping gloss black clean. Was no worries helping out either! Glad you've survived the rain outs of QLD
    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
    • Actually I might have figured out. Looks like there is a tab according to google images but it's hidden. Silly me.
