Due to the nature of our cars, there are many SAU Members involved in motorsport at a hobby/amatuer level. As such, our members have many connections to buy motorsport-related products.

In this thread, I hope to collate a list of circuit racing tyres, and the cheapest places that our members are able to organise for us.

For my contribution, Gary's Motorsport Tyres have sold me two sets of Dunlop Formula-R D01Js (235/40ZR17) for a discounted price of $400 per tyre (fitted and balanced)

Can anyone beat that price?

Who has some contacts for purchasing the following tyres?

Yokohama A032R

Bridgestone RE55S

Falken AZENIS RT-215

any others?

Please list sizes and prices you can get for us!

Ok, no prices right now, but SAU club sponsor Gordon Levin Tyres in Emu Plains sell

Bridgestone RE55s

Yokohama A032R

Don't forget to ask for the SAU discount if you go

I'd suggest trying Tempe Tyres for Falken AZENIS RT-215, they can get excellent prices on Falken road tyres.

BTW, Garry's are the NSW distributor for Dunlop, so its unlikely you can get a better price elsewhere :D

Ok - Ive been out and about today attempting to get some prices on some R Spec tyres and this is what Ive found out.

It seems the sales of R Spec tyres is being controlled and for each of the major brands they have only ONE distributor per state. So shopping for prices is non available.

For peoples information in Vic the places are:

Dunlop - Stukey Tyre Services - 828 Sydney Rd. Brunswick 3056 - PH: 9386-5331

Bridgestone - TRACKSIDE 161 Canterbury rd, Kilsyth, VIC 3137. PH: 0409 021 885

Yokohama - Traction Tyre Center - 65 Kellets Rd - Roweville - PH. 9764 2811

(Also enjoy trying to find R Spec tyres in 18's! No D01J's, No RE540's, No A032R's!)

Will update when I get a quote from Stukeys on the new Dunlop DZ02G's.

I just called Gordon Leven Tyres and here are the prices I was able to get.

First price is for SAU Forum Members, second price is for SAU NSW Club Members.

Yokohama A032Rs

245/45ZR16 - $490 $471

235/40ZR17 - $480 $465

255/40ZR17 - $530 $505

Bridgestone RE55S*

225/50ZR16 - $315 $280

235/45R17 - $370 $350

255/40R17 - $400 $380

265/35ZR18 - $460 $430

*Note: Only the "WT2" Compound is available at this stage. This is a wet tyre and are extremely sticky, but fast wearing. The "SR" Compound (hard compound for endurance racing) will be available shortly.

Membership is $55 the first year and $35 each year thereafter. The membership form is here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/downloads...ership_form.pdf

Ok - my tyre investigations went as follows:

Dunlop from Stuckey's

265/40R17 FM-R D01J S COMPOUND $536

255/40R17 DZ02G M1 COMPOUND $521

265/35R18 DZ02G H1 COMPOUND $612

Yokohama from Traction Tyre Center

A032Rs were exactly the same price as Melri quoted for FORUM members although he did say he could do a slightly better price (I didnt push the question as the A032R's don't come in 18's)

The most interesting one was this:

A048s - 265/40ZR18 - $530.

Apparently has performed very well in a back to back trial recently in Japan (Up against the new Dunlop DZ02G) and is apparently also going to be the tyre Jim Richards uses in this years coming Targa Tas. I think I will give them a shot at Phillip Island in a few weeks.

Would the Falken Azenis RT215 make a satisfactory all-weather road tyre? I need to replace my rears (looking for 255 or 265/35R18).

lol sewid, that's a bit off topic for a r tyres buying thread. Do a search for FK451 in this forum for a whole bunch of threads on road tyres.

You need to either

a) be a real masochist or

B) have HGE power to use r tyres on the road

Good idea Dundan, I will call on monday and see what I can organise in the way of a formal SAU agreement...

Guys I'm going to have some tyres available in a month or so, the price should be at least 10 to 20% cheaper than the prices quoted locally. I bought 2x FM-R DJ-01 235x40x18 for $564 each in July last year from Gary's.

Edit: Any of the R compound tyre, including sizes + models you can't get in Australia, as well as the full Nitto range. Sorry for the shameless plug but I felt a bit ripped off buying these tyres, sure they are good but damn it's alot of money.

*Note: Only the "WT2" Compound is available at this stage. This is a wet tyre and are extremely sticky, but fast wearing. The "SR" Compound (hard compound for endurance racing) will be available shortly.

Any update on this?

I will probably regret this....but....

our proud Dutton sponsors, Tempe Tyres are selling Falken RS-V04s 245/45/17s for about $200ea.

These are the real semi-slicks not just the azenis. I haven't tried the dry ones but we did run the wets at Dutton.
