Potentially Buying A Car....a Few Questions!

Recommended Posts

Okay so I am going to be driving 3 hours on sunday, to inspect a 1992 SR20DE S13 Nissan Silvia Automatic Transmission (I really would prefer a manual to be honest but oh well). It looks to be in excellent condition however the owner is asking $8,000.

Just wondering what I should look for when I inspect, also what price should I try bargain them down too? Because honestly an s13 Silvia isn't worth $8,000. especially in automatic form.

Also if i do happen to buy this car.....just wondering if anyone knows what type of bodykit this is? (not the car im buying haha.. unfortunately but the bodykit id plan to put on).

$8,000 for an Auto Sr20de???? sure its not turbo'd????

No turbo....it was imported from Jap in '00 and had a lady owner for 11 years ( current seller) but $8000 for a non turbo auto is wayyy too much...rego expires very soon too.

i wasn't sure what section to put it in? any mod viewing can shift thread to apropriate section plz?

Well i always have had a soft spot for S13's, except i dont like auto's. The only reason I'm considering this Silvia auto one is because it looks to be in excellent condition, + the lady owner point is optimal as it hasn't been flogged/drifted.

Dad is more enthusiastic about going to inspect it cause he wants me to have a car that doesnt stand out to the cops to much. and he's reluctant to import because of "you dont know what the condition of the car is goign to be like"....although i have explained about the auction grading process he refuses to listen.

I might just use the Silvia as a stock standard P-Plate car and until i get a full-time job car. Cheap on fuel, nice basic sports car, easier on insurance, only downfall= AUTO.

ok, i dont know where the addage comes from that female owner = win

people are quick to forget that women attract bears. they can smell the menstration. furthermore. women can not legally own or drive a car as far as i know. so the addage of "lady owner" is a load of bull.

no but seriously. why are women considered better owners? do they get the car serviced? if something's making a funny tapping noise do they get it fixed? a lady owner is just as capable of neglect as a male. and males are just as capable of maintenance as a lady?

my thoughts are, your initial thread was chasing a manual non turbo japanese car. you were DEAD SET on manual and didn't want an auto.

because you wanted an exhilerating drive as you would call it... this silvia is 8K and non turbo and automatic. i can't fathom what would be "exciting" to drive about it (personally) maybe you'll see something in it that i won't see cos i'm not the one owning / driving it...

but for 8K... it's expensive to insure. being a silvia. it's what... 18-20 years old? no boost... no gear changing... i just ... i persoanlly can't see a rewarding car there for the 8K price tag =/

there is a SSS PULSAR IN THIS LINK with your name on it...

actually i'd also trying having a look at this one because it's in NSW

quick facts

silvia SR20DE

91-93 (i'm guessing) 17/20 years old

SR20DE early series

automatic

$8000

Pulsar SSS

year 2000 half the age of silvia

sr20DE vvt black top (assuming?)

manual

18" wheels

sunroof

foglights (SR and FL probably means it was a premium pack)

oh and another few things about the pulsar.

airbag

ABS

probably lower km range

and it's ironically $500 cheaper than the lesser equipped. older. less "spirited" automatic silvia.

or you could save a FURTHER 500 bucks making it a GRAND LESS from the silvia...

and get a completely standard white one with stock wheels

click

then using your spare grand... get in touch with aaron from import monster n put some nice dirty SSR / work wheels with fresh meaty tyres on that bitch.

just my opinion man... it's your call but i know what i would pick if i had the choice...

and incase you can't smell what the rock is cooking.

i would pick the newer. safer. cheaper. better engined better equipped pulsar SSS.

for the record - i've never met an unhappy SSS owner. personally i don't get it - why they love them so much... but ask dale. he fuggin loves his - and that's coming from a stagea

Lady Owner Point- Yeah you do have a point about the lady owner....although I was just hoping she would of been one of those middle-aged women who absolutely baby their car.....cause it does have log books. However i often look too much on the brightside....as you said she could of been a completely shit owner who failed to take care of it properly. However just from looking at it it looks damn clean.

However there are no pics of the engine bay, or direct pics of the front end....which i find suspicious.

Pulsar- I actually do like these cars, only reason I haven't considered a Pulsar is because of front wheel drive. My current car i drive is Corolla 6A-FE engine with 61 KW when new. Seeing as its 20 years old it would probably have a lot less obviously. I do enjoy driving it...mainly because its manual, but the whole front-wheel drive concept turns me off.

Silvia- Its rego expires in July, which is a prime point I was going to bring up to the owner...also the fact that Silvia Automatics are usually sub-5k. I'd say look because its in good condition and it has sentimental value to you...i'll give you 6k for it. The owner says "yes i accept the offer". La Bomba thinks ohhh excellent, now i can use the 2k i saved due to excellent negotiation to convert to manual.

If owner doesnt accept. I say 6.5k. thats my final offer....this is the most you'll get for this car.

Although i do feel like i'm ripping myself off even offering 6k for it.....simply because its auto. Non of the less it would be nice being seen in an import/saying i own a performance import

I just am trying to jump on this opportunity because i love the look of S13's...and for once ive found one looking to be in good condition.

haha in one post you literally say you do and don't want it then say you do want it

fwd... fair enough... if you don't like it nobdoy can make you like it... but - as i said... i've yet to meet someone who DOESN'T love their SSS to bits...

but, see again you're talking about doing a manual convert - you realise you won't make this money BACK, right? =P

also - no offence but i don't see what part of auto non turbo silvia screams "performance import"

sss pulsar is a performance import. it's an unsung hero IMO. they're also lighter than a silvia (can anyone comfirm that?)

EDIT: seriously. 8 grand. 8fkn grand you can probably get a turbo manual skyline R33.... 8K just.... fk... for a non turbo auto spec S13?!

wait... is it J's spec? Q's or A's?

would be K's being a nonturbo surely

Mr Eps. You seriously are one of, if not THE FUNNIEST bloke on here. That shit is full of lulz. Well done sir, well done.

OT the pulsars are bloody good cars. Reliable and pretty cheap to run and maintain. Quite practical but don't look like a family car. Can be converted to turbo later (200fwkw easily) and all the points Mr Eps makes are very valid.

Just an observation though. 8 Grand can get you a really nice car. I think you need to narrow down your must haves. DON"T under any circumstances dick around with doing a manual conversion. Just give me your money instead. I will put it to good use!!!

Good point.... I miss my N15

see now check this sad piece of work over here... this poor guy had an N15 pulsar SSS and bought an R32 GTS

you could be him man. crying on a web forum like a 10 year old girl about how he used to be cool

poor guy... probably cries himself to sleep every night of his life knowing that someone out there has the N15 that he used to drive. the guy who bought his probably has a really hot girlfriend and a wicked cool job involving something to do with a helicopter. i dunno maybe he sells helicopters on the eastern seaboard. maybe he even deals in complex weaponry like one of those smooth motherf**kers you see in movies. all because he has an N15. his girlfriend is probably really hot.. but classy hot

brown hair. C-cup titties that fit snug into a red dress. she does her makeup real nice too cos she knows that if she looks too tarty then she'll get a swift reminder that her weapons dealing partner is infact still on the run from the kremlin motherland, and despite being very dashing and debonair, isn't above flexing his muscle and showing her how to behave if you know what i mean. and if you've ever driven an N15. you'll know exactly what i mean.

R32_skyline_GTS will know what i mean. he used to have it all. N15. hot girlfriend. high paying job at conglomo-corp... but then one day his girlfriend got caught in a chemical fire. he had to sell the N15 to pay for her medical expenses. which were conveniently priced at $7,500. his girlfriend was told she'd never walk again. but in the chemical fire. she gained superpowers of rapid healing and recovery. and also had grown an addiction to sex.

unfortunately. R32skylineGTS had to sell the N15 to Vladmir Kraknovich. a dashing debonair arms dealer. who was going to buy a nonturbo auto silvia at first. but decided to save money on an N15 instead.

legend has it that Kraknovich bought the N15 and gave some girl he shacked up with a C cup boob job. legend has it... that girl... is R32SkylineGTS's's's ex love.

she's happy. but is missing something in her soul. but can't go back to where she thought she was happy. because where she was happy. now has a nonturbo skyline.

it's sad stuff man... sad stuff..

...in futher news

02Stagea - cheers man! people usually call me gay or fat so thanks for the kudos!

do you reckon you could write me a transcript of what to say on the phone mr.eps? hahahaha.

i need to somehow convince them the car is not worth what they are saying without making them upset.

?

because thing is im going to have to drive 3 hours there 3 hours back so if they dnt acept the offer i might as well save $50 pe-troll money

just say 5K is all you can afford. that's all you can really say man, don't tell them reasons as to why their car isn't worth it... that's cocky and rude.. just say "this is all i can afford.. i have the cash waiting in a brown paper with with a "$" written on it... se what happens. if they come back and offer you guidance then so be it..

but just keep in mind, you're halving their asking price n adding a grand... what would YOU say if someone offered you that

ohhhh yes good point. Well i got my dad to ring the lady up...

anyway my dad said my son is looking to buy this car nissan silvia and has 5 grand to spend...and its possible we may be able to help out a little bit.

She said the absolute lowest she'd go is $7,000, and that she is in no hurry to sell...but it would be nice because she just bought a 350z.

This is the rundown:

$7000 with renewed years worth of rego + greenslip

and lower without these two things.

Now....she said it was imported in 2000 through Ford Kia or something... for $20,000. So was that a high price for silvia s13 in 2000? Anyway she said it has never been in any acidents. Aside from a tree branch fallling on the bonnet, which resulted in bonnet being replaced.

How does that sound Mr.Eps?

    • They should do. I have S14 (or something S chassis, anyway) driveshafts in my R32 (because my diff flanges have 3x2). They're the right length. When you go looking for R32/3/4 driveshafts (for turbos), they're all the same thing, so are the same length. So there really shouldn't be any reason why those cheapies from JJ won't also fit an R34. R32/3 NA should also be the same thing. The (3x the price) D-Max ones are uni-fit. They have 5x1 and 3x2 bolt holes and say they cover all the cars. So that would also suggest that they are all the same except for the flanges. And in that case, the flange goes both ways. I'd be buying the D-Max ones if I ever have to replace a shaft. Because that will open up diff options without needing to juggle shafts also. Juggling shafts is gay.
    • Yeah with the adaptors they do look like the photo above - just the fitment within the plenum itself and then further with the rail to the intake is questionable - we shall see tomorrow hopefully once I get some replies from Aeroflow, maybe those bosses are the missing piece....
    • Should be fine, if you have it sitting too far in, you end up just spraying the walls and have shit idle. You "can" run them like that, however I don't think it's a great idea (also depends on your plenum, might be good to just get the injector bosses first, mock it up and see if you need to get the bottom extension) Ideally your injectors, with the extension should look like this  (Not my photos, just Google)
    • Thanks for the replies guys, it's really appreciated.  It seems the kit was supposed to come with those injector bosses but hasn't. Unsure if they'll help as even with the adaptors to make them a 3/4 height injector they still sit too far out so mount the fuel rail?
    • Hello, I am looking to replace my two rear drive shafts in my R34 N/A Skyline but I'm finding conflicting information. Do S13/S14/S15 or R32 NA/ R33 NA fit? https://justjap.com/products/gsp-premium-rear-drive-shaft-l-h-nissan-silvia-s13-s14-s15-3x2-type?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOoqY7EwDaYCUoUU3mxxZ_qrUXkVVHiV4MIN7ozoar6scjnEiekv- would this fit?
