Engine now had some Kms on it and was run in enough to take back to CRD for a tune. It was when Jim was trying to add more pre-tension to the wastegates, that he discovered an issue with them. 1) I hadn't originally set enough pre-tension on the wastegates. This meant that the gates were still slightly open, which would of caused the turbos to be a bit laggier 2) There wasn't enough adjustment on the wastegates to get them set to hold 14psi.

My brother and I ended up pulling what I needed to off the intake side of the engine to get to the actuators. We removed the actuators and they got modified, then we refitted them and Con set the correct pre-tension to 14psi. Finished putting the intake side back together and got it ready for the Dyno tune.

CRD found that the NISMO pump was not flowing enough, but the simple grounding mod fixed this issue. Jim then did the tune, dialled in the cam gears and finally swapped over to some copper plugs. I asked them to do this as they are a lot cheaper to replace than the platinum plugs (which are necessary). Car originally made 330Kw at 18psi with the air flow meters maxed out. As I was after more response and track safe tune, Jim concentrated on the 15psi tune. I ended up sacrificing overall power for this goal. I was extremely happy with the tune and the response. Hopefully this will show at the track day.

As the SAU NSW track day was coming up and I had some spare time, so I took my car back to my friends panel beating shop (All Prestige at Condell Park). He had gotten me some N1 vents for it (fibreglass replicas). I spent the day installing them. I wasn't worried too much about painting them at the moment, so he just blew in some white paint that he had laying around from another job.

I hope this helps aid the cooling of the car.

The really needs the bonnet and front bar painted, but will get these later on.

Had a fun day at the track on Saturday. Car went well without any problems at all. Learnt a lot about how to drive the car and what needs to be done next to improve the handling of the car.

Started off the day on full slicks. Due to the lack of my driving skills and it being so cold, I couldn't get any temperature into them. This caused me to spin a few times, but managed to keep it off the grass. Swapped over to my road rims and tyres. Spent the rest of the day having fun and learning the correct lines and where to push to the limits of the tyres. Got faster as the day went along.

The day was run really well and went smoothly. I highly recommend going to the next one.

Can't wait to get back to the track.

Looking into getting a performance box, this way I can time my laps and use the GPS data to analyse the lines I am taking on a track.

A few updates

Car has been parked up due to renovating my house. In January I went to start it up to give it a run and my brother noticed this luckily

The last time I had driven it was a track day. I think that a stone had gotten in there and caused all the damage. I hadn't been running the cam cover as the bushes for the backing plate were loose. It also required to remove the timing belt and cam gears to get to them. I still didn't have them by the time I got the timing belt back so with some help the new timing belt and tensioners were put on for now, with the plan to get the new bushes and bolts for the covers from Nissan.

I ordered new bolts, bushes and spacers to be able to put the valley cover and front cam cover back on. Nissan had everything except the bushes for the cam cover backing plate which I really needed. Spoke to Paul from Red R Racing who said he had some.

Went and visited Paul one weekend on a Saturday for what was meant to be a relatively simple job of removing the timing belt, removing the cam gears, inserting the bushes into the backing plate and re-assembling everything. This turned out to be more complicated due to a stupid mistake I made while the timing belt was off. I had left the key in the ignition and had it on accessories as we were using it to turn the motor to close TDC. Paul noticed this, so I reached through the window backwards and turned the key the wrong way really briefly. This caused the motor to turn over. We thought I might have been lucky but when it was put back together, it sounded like it was missing on one cylinder and there was a tapping sound. Paul tracked it down to be the exhaust valves 4 & 5.

So timing belt cam off and we pulled the head off with everything attached.

We worked into early Sunday morning

They didn't look too bad and seemed to only bend from below the valve guide. Paul managed to seat one of the replacement valves, but couldn't get the other one to work. We decided to go to bed and see if his machinist was available later on Sunday.

Luckily for me the machinist was working onhis own car in the shop, so everything was ripped off the head and taken over to the shop. With a bit of back cutting on the replacement vale the second one went in and could be seated. We took the head back to Paul's. He had to go out, so I left my car there and headed back home to Sydney.

During the week Paul at night put the head back together and put it back on the motor. I went back up the following weekend to help finish attaching everything and to take the car home.

It is back up and running fine again, with all the covers back on, ready for it's next SAU NSW Trackday on May 28th.

I would like to say a big thank you to Paul and Stacey from Red R Racing for not only helping me out with my car but feeding me and giving me a bed to sleep while I was up there.

Paul went out of his way to help me out and as much as he isn't popular on these forums, he is a really good guy.

Nice build up! Looks like some good stuff done there.

It's a constant work in progress. I want to get some new seats for it, with more bolstering to hold you in the seat better and the shocks really need to be taken out and be rebuilt. Either that or I will look at getting some new ones.

It was good to meet you Scott. The valve issue was my own fault and I was grateful that Paul helped me out. Right place at the right time. You now need to get a proper tune for your car to get what you expected from it.
