Sorry to not put this in tyres thread... but it seems no-one looks there.

I was defected for having 93 load-index tyres (brand new) on the GTR.

They are Sumitomo HTR Z II at 265/35/18.

Every other tyre I can find in that size also has a load-index of 93.

Are you running the same size tyre as me?

Are they above 93 load-index (670kg and up)?

What are they?

I need 4-new tyres :D

On the placard on the drivers door jamb - 94 index or 670kg rating.

That's on a 1997 GTR. Not sure what a GTS has, or even a 32 R?

I went back to Bob Jane (who recommended, sold and fitted the tyres) - every 265/35/18 in their list was rated at 93. Even P-Zeros.

I need to get new tyres now (these ones not even 6-months old) - but can't see what ones to get. If I go taller/wider, they are the incorrect size for the rim... and I get a defect. Again.

I know is't a bit full-on... but that's what the number says. I'm below the number.

The cop was even surprised - he said 93 is really high anyway.

Problem is - if I have an accident, insurance can be null based on this. The tyres are illegal on my car. Problem is - I can't find any tyres that aren't :D

Dude thats bullshit.

93 is 650kg x 4 = 2600 kg

Your GTR does not even come close to needing tyres with a higer load index. This is harrassment and you should file a complaint.

Bit quick on the "harrassment" trigger that buddy...

If it's on the manufacturer's tyre placard as 670 load rating or higher, I don't see that as being harassment.

Instead, I have to question Nissan's motive for putting such a high load rating for the car.

The only tyres I could find that we could possibly use are Michelin Pilot Sports.

265/35/18 only has a ZR rating and no load rating on their website.

But they have the following:

255/45ZR18 Rating: 99 Y

275/40ZR18 Rating: 99 Y

285/35ZR18 Rating: 97 Y

The placard is a compliance one.

Curious to know what the Nissan factory one states...

Anyone got one?

Found some Hankooks that are 97. Not sure what they are like though...

I just checked my car and it has the Nissan Tyre Placard stuck on there.

It lists a minimum of 600kg per tyre (or 90 Load Rating) and Speed Rating no less than Z...

Merli: What tyres do you have? Are they the same size as me...

Thanks for the info on the Michelins. The 265 don't mention a load rating though.

Any idea on cost per corner?

Yep, same size as you...

I'm running Bridgestone S03s 265/35/ZR18s with load/speed rating of 93 Y

Michelins are expensive, but no more so than S03s or Pirellis... The 265s won't work for you... They don't have a load rating... You'll have to get the 285/35ZR18s or a new tyre placard :D

600kg - argh.

If only I had THAT sticker on my car. Cop said they would never have picked it up if I didn't have the sticker at all. So stupid.

Can you take a photo and email through for me?

Jamezzilla,

I just checked my R33 GTR, It says along the lines...bla bla.."tyres fitted on this vehicle should have a maximum load rating of "NOT less than" 545kg or a load index of "NOT less than" 87 or a speed category of "NOT less than" "H"

If you've got 93, I'd double check the cop isn't just a fly by time waster

Just spoke to TMU after reading these...

He was surprised it was so high anyway. He said that if I can show ample proof to VicRoads that the car is within manufacturer limits - and that other vehicles have a different placard, then I'll be fine with my current tyres.

Even suggested I get a new placard to match :D

Mesh: Can you email me a photo of yours also?

Will chase up with the compliance plate holder about 'who' puts these tyre placards on, and where they get the figures from.

The plot thickens...

Thanks all for your help :D
