i have a R34 converted to a manual using R33 GTST bits, with a heavy duty clutch (i dont know the brand)

car has ran fine for 6 or so months til one day my pedal starting getting softer and softer til eventually i cudnt even get a grab point and it wouldnt go into gear... so i found a leaking clutch line.. got that fixed a week later the clutch did the same... so i got my master cylinder re-hauled.... now 2 weeks after that my clutch has done the same thing so i got my slave cylinder over hauled...

just got it back the other day after getting the slave all done..... problem is back again....... WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!! it's really bothering me :P

cheers

ahhhh.. ok?

GT AUTO GARAGE here in Brisbane, are the ones that said its my master cylinder for sure and that the seal was broken so i got that done. it happened again so i took it back and they said ok next step is ur slave.. so i said ok got that done and they said that should be the last of it.. you have a new line, new master, new slave theres nothing else there that could be the problem.. and now its happened again.....

so before you go takin a stab at ME, i havent done any of this work, QUALIFIED mechanics have recommended everything that has been done and they have done all the work... not me.

cheers for the concern tho

Maybe read your first post again. I wasn't taking a stab at you, merely reading a post that kept saying 'I this' and 'I that'

And qualified doesn't always mean qualified mechanics, it means maybe take it somewhere like ABS - A brake and clutch specialist. If someone knows how to test the system properly, they will find it straight away, not just say 'oh the next step is....'

Find the problem....fix it

alright well anyway i started this thread in the first place to ask people in the brisbane area (preferably northside) of some reputable and good clutch specialists.... so anyone know of any good places to take it to be diagnosed properly around the northside?

Just throwing it out there.....

I had a very similar problem. turns out the spot welds on the clutch pedal bracket came apart and the whole pedal was twisting when i pressed the pedal and in turn not compressing the master cylinder piston completely and in turn not fully compressing the slave and so on.... which obviously made it difficult changing gears. I ignored it to the point where i eventually stuffed my slave cylinder and had to have it reco'd. All it took to fix was a fey welds on the pedal brace/bracket. it was a cheap exercise put cost me a few days off the road messing around with it all. I have since been told this is very common problem with nissan clutch pedals. I guess thats why nismo sell a reinforced aftermarket one.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps someone in someway.

Cheers!

why did you guys get the master and slave cylinders reconditioned when new parts are just as cheap

Had mine rebuilt with new parts. $20 cash job through a bloody good brake and clutch shop.

Price included honing, parts and labour.

Only slave needed doin.

ok thanks RBceffy25, i'll definatley have a little look around that area thanks for the input mate.

Arthur T3, yeah i have been thinking its either the way my pedal has been put in or my fork is not operating properly so does anyone know how to diagnose the clutch fork? or do i have to get everythin ripped out? i think i got quoted like $500ish to get everything ripped out and gone over... + then whatever parts need fixing etc. but i dont really wanna go paying all that money...

the part that i dont get is.. it was driving perfect for 6months or so.. then suddenly just whilst stopped at lights i went to take off and noticed it had gone all soft (the pedal) and the engagment point was straight off the floor... so why would it just go all of a sudden? maybe it is the pedal itself what ceffy suggested.. the welds just broke then...

cheers

I've had a similar issue before with the clutch pedal bracket- I can machine a solid one up for you if you need, happy to have a look a look at yours if you like. For checking out your hydraulic systems you could try BHSS at Albion (opposite Perry Park)
