Ok .. finally got under the Stag to take pics of a Transmission leak that seems to be getting worse :(

I took some pics and I think I know where its leaking from but need some confirmation from those smarter and more experienced than me.

Have a look and tell me what you think ok ?

Thanks in advance.

what is it, power steer fluid, diff oil or engine oil

most likely just oil leak from an oil filter change, almost impossible not to spill oil on top of the diff.

step 1 as always is degrease it all and see if the leak returns

def doesn't look like spillage from a filter change to me. looks like oil has been thrown around a bit from the shaft

I'd also say that it looks like it's coming from the oil filter. Trans fluid (if auto) tends to be red in colour and very thin. If manual, it tends to be the cosistancy of honey and have metalic specs through it.

yeah, it isn't auto trans fluid. looks to be engine oil but pic number 3 shows it thrown everywhere.. not coming from or result of the filter.

not overly familiar with the awd setup coming from a rwd stag but don't you guys have a front diff in the sump or something? that would be my guess as to where it's coming from

i agree it looks like its been spraying on the driveshaft, but it can still be engine oil from the filter. that is most likely, but there is also a diff oil seal at the end of the driveshaft that might be leaking.

yeah I think it might be coming out of that shaft area where I was pointing in one of the pics.

I have just degreased it and will inspect it again in a few days.

it does not seem to be losing engine oil , and Yes I agree it seems to be flicked around by the shaft hence my thoughts that it could be the seal on the shaft I was pointing to.

yeh I see that too, so I am wondering if thats where its leaking from

if so - anyone got a link etc on how to replace that seal ?

thanks

you can see a "pool" well a drip forming on the machined surface below where the drive shaft bolts to diff flange .

doesnt seem to be as much oil anywhere else
