Nothing wrong with a N/A if your on your Ps or using as a daily to and from work, both in which I do... its been great never had a problem even when I get pulled over on the way to work (happened a few times now) they come up look at the brakes and go.. "bugger non turbo"

+1. They are fun when you are on your P's. And you still get the same looks from people around, especially when you are driving a Skyline on P's.

K I'm lost as who I should believe... >.>

I know that VS > VT because they use the same engine and VS is lighter, But Iunno about VN. :S

fastest commo v6 is the VN and they got slower from there jonoe :)

Actually Boz the VP is the fastest commodore ever. The VN V6 did 0-100 in 8.1 seconds the VP did it in 8.0. They just kept getting slower and slower from the VP onwards because they kept adding safety feature after feature but not that much more power until the slowness peaked with the VT V6 which did 0-100 in 9.1 seconds. The current VE is still slower than a VP it does it in 8.6 seconds.

To those of you comparing sporty cars like the Magna VRX with the Commodore just dont, your comparing something built with sporting pretensions with a car just designed to be a family car. If you want to make a fair comparison compare it with the likes of an SS or a Clubbie, and by the way the Commodores that have an S after the name only means you get a stupid spolier and a bodykit not more power. Also the VT came out in 97 not 03, so if you want to compare sporty family cars, VY SS vs 03 Magna VRX, I wonder which one would win :)

the NA supra is well, slow.

In comparison with a modern aussie V8, turbo 6 or turbo Supra or Skyline definetly. But for an NA car its definetly a quick one 0-100 in 6.59 seconds is pretty impressive it would trounce every car we have discussed in this thread.

Just forgot to include. I'm referring to cars which is legal for P's. OFC the VR-X isn't in the same league as the S pack commo, I just used the S pack because that was the beastiest it could get for a p plater wanting a commo. (I under stand commo badges... >.>)

Sorry for miss understanding :)

No worries :merli: Best Victorian P-Plater car imo is the NA Supra, it has the speed and is quite the confortable cruiser too. S13 Silvia's and the 180sx get an honourable mention as well, they are reasonable quick cars and both hold there values brilliantly well because P-platers always want a cool first car. Although fastest car now legal for P-platers that I know of is the factory turbo VL commodore which can be great fun but are cop bait.

    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
