hey guys, this might be a bit BROAD to ask but just out of curiosity, how much power can an rb25det engine take (without any internal work) before bits start breaking internally? how much boost? etc

cheers

Covered to death, and as said before, how long is a piece of string?

I'm sure you could push 400kw+ for a few seconds, maybe even a lifetime. Of course the rods, pistons, crank and gasket will only go so far, but the tune will have a lot to do with it. You could destroy it on a horrible 200kw tune, or it could last forever on a 300kw tune.

Also of course, lower boost is better. No idea on numbers though

From my time on this forum, a well tuned RB25DET in good condition seems to handle 300-320rwkw no problems. I remember reading a post from Status Tuning that 350rwkw was fine.

There was also one guy i remember with close to 400rwkw but he was just being silly while his new engine was being built. Lasted for a while but hardly a reliable setup.

Obviously if something fails then at these high power figures its not going to be pretty. But if you can keep all the important stuff reliable then it seems to be good thing.

i've been pushing this power for over 2 years, including track days. motor sees a fair amount of limiter

Trent recons mid 300's is not a problem providing the motor is decent to begin with

kewl guys, just what i wanted to hear, but are these figures at the wheel or motor?

im asking because of a car im looking at had a bit of a flogging, stock internals, but had aftermarket turbo, ecu etc the works, but just no internal work, and he was on 275rwkw, im just hoping that the engine will still be in good nick after having all this power running through it thats all.

the engine is now running on stock gear again, factory setup.

there was that guy overseas that had one over 400 i i think . cained it for years . had a built motor waiting to go in . the only thing that killed it was reving it to high

i think his rev limit had always been about 7 and raised it to 8 to do with gear change pionts at the drags wanted to ring out 4th and not have to change to 5th and it blew up about 7800 rpm

it takes a while to find it with a search and i cant be f**ked

neo rb25, 1.4 bar boost, 330 rwkw stock internals. Car is drifted and hard. cops a regular thrashing and goes well. support systems are spot on, does not overheat oil or water at all, tune is spot on and i run BP98 + 20% methanol mix.

am planning to bring the peak boost back down a bit tho. my gate was too small and with cams it cant flow enough out. have now upgraded to larger gate so will retune it and reduce the boost and put some more timing back in so shouldnt lose any power.

With that fuel cocktail it should last forever.
