17.16 Rear Reflectors

Reference ADR 13.6.14 ADR 47/...

1. Purpose

Rear reflectors are intended to indicate the presence of a vehicle by the reflection of light from a light source not connected with the vehicle, the observer being situated near that source; Reflective number plates are not considered as reflex reflectors.

2. Presence

Mandatory

Two or more matching red reflectors complying with ADR 47/... shall be fitted to the rear of all vehicles.

3. Position

Pairs of reflectors facing rearwards shall be fitted symmetrically (same position on both halves of vehicle).

3.1 Width:

See Figure 7.16.1 below.

3.2 Height:

See Figure 7.16.1 below.

3.3 Length:

Rear reflectors shall be fitted to the rear and face rearward.

3.4 Geometric Requirements

The required angular range of reflected light is as shown in Figure 7.16.2 and 7.16.3.

4. Lighting Requirements

They shall be non-triangular and fit within a circle 200 mm in diameter and shall reflect a red light.

5. Grouping of Reflectors

May be grouped with any other lamp, and it may form part of the lens of rear red lamp.

To drag this up, I just thought I would let you guys know that I have been pulled up 3 times since I chucked these in and cops said nothing... 2 were nightime bretho's - both cops popped bonnet, checked vin number and let me go. Day time was speeding but was only 1 point offence.. but yeh, never had anything said about it.
