Hey guys, i've been searching through carsales.com trying to pick out a decent car that i can use to get around in the time from when my car sells and up to i buy my new car. This could be a 6 month period or so.

Im only looking to spend about $6k, give or take.

Ive looked at the following sorts of cars that im thinking are least likely to shit themselves over the time i own it:

1993 honda civic (sedan)

1994 honda integra

1996 mazda astina 323 hatch (6cyl)

1991 - 1994 nissan 180sx (turbo)

1990 - 1991 toyota celica GT4

1995 - 1997 ford probe

I did look at a few R32's and R33's but i doubt they will re-sell very easily when i want to get rid of them.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

none of those cars are gonna be easy to resell without taking a $1000 hit. borrow one off a mate who has a spare and give him $100 a month? Or buy one with 6 months rego left that's going to the wreckers.

mayb keep a look out for some1 who is desperate to sell, and try get something for a real good price no matter what it is then hopfully even if it does depreciate you should still be able to make your money back... or the 6 month rego with one going to the wrecks sounds good...

i had a road bike i brought once for $4,400 had it for 6 months and lost no money, but thats coz i looked for ages and found a good deal...

Already tried with mates cars. The only one who could have helped me bloody sold his spare car not long ago :rofl2: Plus any car thats going to the wreckers i doubt would come with a RWC

Go the civic. I had a hatch in reliable condition that was bought at 3k and sold at 3k 8 months later. Hondas have a good rep.

I was leaning towards the civic cos they are popular and would probably be the easiest to re-sell out of all of them. Plus probably the easiest to maintain.

Get something you can pawn off in the quickest time possible,

ie commodore, barina etc. Dont piss fart around with hot hatches or 2 door coupes cos it wont be worth the hassle in the end.

yeh i could but in the case where i need to keep the car for a longer period of time i want it to be something i wont be embarrassed driving and can have a little fun in as well. unfortunately not all the options are RWD

Civic or Astina out of that bunch. Hondas hold value well, too well. I wouldn't be buying a turbocharged car in that price bracket if a budget vehicle is what you're aiming for. Almost certainly going to cost alot more down the track when things start going. N/A much more reliable.

I've said it before in other threads. R31 Skyline. Tough as nails, enough power, drive well, parts can be bought with spare change. You can pick up ones with RWC and rego for $2K. And when the time comes you can re-sell it for $2K.

Yes you are being picky :) But if you want something small & easy, then civic is the way to go... or any 1.3-1.5L hatchbacks
