Mobile Speed Cameras

Hopefully all of you will find the following useful, a complete list of RTA NSW's new mobile speed camera locations:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/downl..._locations.html

Not to suggest that anyone here in particular speeds, but it's good to know where these new cameras are going to be lurking.

(on a side note this is my first post at SAU, thought i'd contribute something rather than a typical "hey i'm new here")

Nice of you Dave & Welcome to SAU!!!

Really pleased to meet you too finally Matt on Sat at Wakie !!! ^^^

Likewise! We have bumped shoulders before, unfortunatly if you pull me out from behind a computer screen I can be kind of standoffish

Amusingly enough, the area at Albion Park they're referring to? Speed is not a factor at all in any of those accidents. I know, I was one of them (and was at fault). You slow down for a set of lights, and the person in front of you slams the brakes on. Bam.

I see accidents there almost every weekend. Although quite surprised 3 dead? Hmm. I figured I would have heard about that. Either way, having the camera there due to crashes is ridiculous... Most of those accidents are happening at 40km/h or less in a 60 zone (I hit at about 20, was doing 50 before slamming on brakes).

Another thing to note, I recall 7 news last night saying that there will only be 6 mobile speed cameras initially in operation for the entire state! Yep... I'm feeling the omnipresence

Yeah the 6 cars are going to have to be in operation for something like 67 hours a day to be able to account for the quota promised by the state govt.

The forecast is that the cameras will provide 127 million in revenue... but its all for safety when road tolls have only decreased since the 70's when increase in road users i accounted for.

Yay for scare tactics!!!!

Yeah, they say "1 is too many"... HEY RTA GUESS WHAT, ACCIDENTS HAPPEN TOO Y'KNOW. You can't account for everything. Picton Road is a VERY notable point... It's not a bad road, it's just people lose concentration.

Oh, and by saying "speed is a factor"... A cop-out, seeing as of course the accident wouldn't have occurred if they weren't moving at all. It's ok, we'll just do 40km/h on freeways and 5km/h in residential zones OOH OR JUST GET HORSES AGAIN.

Raped by RTA for rego etc (and because it's legislation, it doesn't count as a monopoly... I think that's a bit shifty), and now again in the name of "safety".

Ugh, again, I know that if you're not speeding you won't get caught, but they really didn't think this through too well.

Speed isn't the problem, it's the sudden stop at the end....

Either way; crashes don't necessarily indicate speed.

Yeah it does!

seeing as of course the accident wouldn't have occurred if they weren't moving at all.

The RTA and SDRO are all about lies, I just don't like them.

You might need to read your road rules again but under 10 over is only one point.

Secondly read the insurance thread, some people posted findings about speeding fines affecting premiums etc...

Ps, the government gets no extra money off insurance companies then if you spend your money at a fish and chip shop...

Really?

I go into a fish nd chips shop and buy lets say a small chips for $2. The govt claims hypothetically 20c in tax.

If I lose my license and then get comprehensive and have to pay an extra $200/annum.

Then the govt gets $20 a year more from me. Over 5 years, $100. It adds up and its something that you 'have to' mention if it's occured in the last five years.

The govt has their dirty fat pudgy fingers in every big industry.

Mining taxes are about to be imposed and what happens? The PM gets voted out and a ranga steps in. Hmm..

And all that these would be doing anyway is taking over the job of that police officer.

Have you been pinged by a copper in the last few years?

No?

Been done by a mobile speed camera 3 to 10 years ago?

No?

Nothing to worry about.

I don't think anyone is too worried about getting "done" it's more to do with the fact that it's wrong to go about it this way.

Is this going to save lives?

No

Is this going to make millions for the government?

Yes

Just because you're not going to get done doesn't mean you shouldn't fight against something that is wrong.

Guys, saw the mobile speed cameras for the first time today.

They're really sneaky and by the time you see them, it's too late. Lucky I was going under 60. Check out the pics leading up to the car, it's so hard to distinguish it from a normal car.

The signs are small - about 40cm x 40 cm or thereabouts.

They are manned, by someone who looked like only a mother could love. Perhaps a parking inspector in his past life.

The car is not white, it was light blue/blueish silver!

Pics attached. Apologies for crap quality - taken with phone while moving.

For those of you with a keen eye, yes, I am in my stagea daily driver :D

thanks for posting that up MW, now I know what to look out for. (and what type of cars to throw my molotov cocktails at)

cass it's like a corrugated dirt road - if you go faster the bumps even out :D they shouldn't penalise us for doing that until they fix the road :)

maybe we should just get some big signs made up that say WARNING SAFETY CAMERA AHEAD with some LEDs flashing away and post them about 200m before the car.

They need cams to catch people. If they relied on eyesight only, the cases would be thrown out of court! Reason? The stripes are lined up terribly on that car! lol

Thanks for interesting pics tho'
