insurance is put simply - imdemnity. replaces you prior to your loss.if you outlay 50k and similar cars have a guide of 80k, some inusrers will go off purchase price. they will ask you. if the underwriter does the job properly, they will ask why you got it cheap. if you pay 50k, say on rego tranafer its 30k, claim gets investigated and you paid 30k - the insurer will have a few options to the insured...im sure you can all guess.

many reasons as you said can get cheap - family, repariable write off etc - best to be up front

with most companies, repairable write offs once inspected by an insurer for comp cover are with upto 75% of the guide price.

I for one wouldnt want to screw around with an insurer, i have seen the outcomes of people who have....I wouldnt want to be in their shoes

remember, both parties entering into the contract (the policy) have a duty of utmost faith.
