From September all under 25 that's on p-plates can't drive all v8, including commodores, fords along with 6 cylinder cars such as the 350z. Gt-rs and 200sx and etc.

I'm little pissed off what there doing with the young drivers I can under stand them with what's been going on the road bu still, I just feel sorry. I'm under 25 but I have my full licence so I'm safe.

What do you think about it?

I agree it is long overdue. Other states have had the laws in for some years. I am sure everyone under 25 thinks it is unfair, but it is their lives they are trying to save. If I had been driving a high performance turbo car in any of my little mishaps I had in much less powerful cars when I was younger, I might not still be with us today. You ng kids get STUPID behind the wheel - I know, I was one of them.

I think the most important rule they are bringing in is the 'no passengers after midnight'. Great idea that limits the carnage. Sadly it won't affect those who drink drive, as their decision making process is so flawed by then they don't consider the law nor the consequences anyhow. Those people will still die and kill others.

It is a bit like people STILL sometimes don't wear seatbelts/bike helmets - yet they are law to save your life .... some people are so stupid it is beyond words .... a bit like smoking - we all know it will KILL, give you CANCER, BLOOD CLOTS, EMPHYSEMA and various other things that will cause you an extremely painful and premature death - yet people still smoke - WTF?

restrictions on power:weight would make more sense...

but its a great idea

the only downside really is the fact that mechanical apprentices are going to be screwed - a lot of people will lose their jobs over this, unless they can get an exemption. Think of jarvis ford that sell a lot of xr6/xr8's, and do the servicing etc - or even your local mechanic...

in principle I agree with it, however its very poorly executed - not enough thought has been put into the consequences - and it tends to favour the rich over the poor - why can a p plater drive daddys turbocharged merc but not a supercharged holden or a turbocharged ford? it smacks of classism

that said, i hope it'll help improve the image of import owners and enthusiasts in general but sadly I dont think that will happen.

You have read it wrong Ben - my understanding is that ALL VARIETIES OF TURBOS AND SUPERCHARGERS ARE BANNED

read it again. some are exempt on the grounds the turbo "is for efficiency" rather than "performance"

cops arse I say

Edit - OK Steve... do u think apprentices on their P plates are going to be legally allowed to drive half the cars they have to work on? Black and white, it says they can't.

I agree with this. You see too many kids dying these days due to the fact that they cant handle the car. If they offered advanced car driving courses like Mark Skaife is pushing for, then I think this will make the roads a safer place. "Making the speed limits slower wont save lives, teaching the kids how to handle and drive the car will" Mark Skaife.

Spot on - problem is you get people like me buying GTR's without having done any advanced/defensive driving courses like they teach the kids in finland as a mandatory thing - and its something that would benefit all drivers not just the youngsters. However our govt is more interested in raising money than getting people educated and actually lowering the death toll.

Just think if they actually did build the motorplex - somewhere for people to legally participate in motorsport and learn, get training etc - does anyone seriously believe that sapol wont have defect stations setup on the outside of the venue?

getting a bit sick of this nanny state mentality

Agreed that it's long overdue but the thin I disagreed with was the article said they are also going to increase the required amount of supervised drivig hours from 50 to 75 which I think is completely pointless. In my opinion there should a radical reform of the entire licencig procedure, actually teach kids how to drive and not just to obey road laws. Like in most parts of Europe, new drivers are required to take more advance driving courses which often involve track/skid pan time to teach them how it feels to lose control of a car and what it feels like when it's about to go. Or make driving part of the curriculum

i think year 10 driver ed at school small classes of 5-8 people or something and you like like rider safe drive around a course and go up to advanced driver training @ say a race track

The change from a driving test (when most of us got our Ps and actually did a 1 hour driving test under pressure) to the log book system was the biggest downfall of our driving system IMHO. Suddenly people who couldn't sit and pass a one hour driving test were easily getting their licences - despite failing a particular manoeuvre 19 times and getting it right the 20th time, and then being able to tick that manoeuvre off in their log book. Pure insanity.

I see so many shocking drivers every day - most of them trying to kill me, unfortunately. Between the massive influx of new immigrants (and without being racist this is the biggest problem group - most abhorrent things I see on the roads in the North-eastern area are of African or Middle-Eastern appearance), and the rapidly ageing population, combined with the decrepit state of our unmaintained roads, it is a huge wonder the death toll isn't 10x times what it is now.

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
