I am thinking about getting a R34 GTR towards the end of the year and can see that NSW has some nice private sale cars up for sale

can someone please spare a few lines of advice as to how there journey in getting a car from NSW to Queensland

My questions are around..

1. Roadworthy for a NSW /VIC Car in Queensland as you can see most R34 R have few mods already, Computer / Exhaust / PODS, etc....

is there any place in Brisbane where i can get roadworthy without removing them

2. Transport cost Vs driving it up here

3. How to pay the guy and make sure it not a stolen car........, i will fly down to check the car out (fly for work to Sydney so this not such a big problem)

I imported by current V35 from Jap via J-SPEC and R33 GTST before that , but not going via import route this time as i would like to get a already modded car (Minor mods only), as i understand you can not import modified cars any more.

of cause if there are some nice R34 in brisbane for around 50K and there about, that would be great too, but i being following car sales for a while to see the Price for R34 R and there are not many from QLD

1. You should not have any trouble getting a roadworthy for a car with pod, fmic, computer etc. Every roadworthy I have ever had done, they check for things that they should be checking: eg lights working, tyre thread etc.

2. Driving myself has been my preferred option, as it's not too expensive, plus you get to enjoy your new car on a few long bits of road.

3. revs check the car to see if it is stolen, has an accident history or has money owing on it

4. let me test drive the gtr, just to make sure it's all as it should seem. the test drive may take a few months, but the end result is worth it.

In the end, finally have to removed the POD and "rent" a standard box for roadworthy

dont want to go through that again

just want to know any Skyline Mechanical shops, which much have more experience in giving roadworthy for Import

i will probably end up driving from NSW

Kushil, most mobile RWC guys are pretty relaxed avbout things like that. The only issue you may have is when the car is inspected by Queensland Transport when you go to get it registered. They check over the car and make sure engine numbers/etc are the same as on the forms.

Having said that, The woman that looked over my Stag when I first got it rego'ed didn't know where the engine number on an RB was!

pod shouldn't be an issue as long as it's secured to the car

that's the problem with roadworthies, too many farken monkies doing them with their own interpretation of the guidelines

i have never had any issues with them myself, and I have had a few done throughout my 7 odd years of imports, so I guess it depens on where you take it

i have used ttr at slacks creek for a few roadworthies, as well as forestdale motorama toyota, and ford servicing out at indro, with no issues, with comprehensively modified cars.

i had a similar problem when it came time to sell my 180, the shop wanted me to return the car to complete standard before they would pass it. told them to shuv it - not going to spend 400-600 bucks to get a roadworthy done

took it too another shop and they said the wheels were fine "as long as there is plenty of tread left on the tyre"

so i'd ring around a few places and explain to them whats on the car and see what they say. atleast if you let them know before you take it down, you wont have wasted your time & money before they say no

I recently bought an EVO 7 from NSW. I drove 45 mins across Brisbane to go to an EVO "specialist" for RWC, he told me: under 90mm at one point, POD filter illegal (had top be boxed), tint on rear windows too dark (factory tint) and carbon boot were all no no's. The carbon boot was to be expected but the rest was a bit over the top.

I took it to the local mechanic 5 mins down the road from my house (he knows nothing about imports) after changing the boot and he passed it without blinking, I was in and out in 10 mins.

The point is choose the mechanic carefully, some are overly anal. If you have some sort of a "relationship" with a mechanic who has done work for you previously, try them first.

Re: QLD transport, they didn't even look at the car let alone engine and VIN numbers etc. It's luck of the draw I guess.

A REVS check should cover you for stolen and encumbered vehicles but make sure you don't purchase it until just before you hand over the payment as they are only valid for 24 hours

As far as transport, I drove mine back but I enjoy long drives so it's a personal thing. I'd say putting it on a transporter would be more expensive though and I have visions of some transport monkey burning out the clutch driving it onto the truck or doing limiter launces and helis in their carpark....

I have requested some info from Import guys here to see if i can import nice V-Spec for my budget

if i can not will buy a R34 GTR from NSW as there seems to be a few around

but if QLD ones comes on the market for the right price will snap it up and no problems

Hopefully the previous owner still have the Origianl AirBox and if not might have to request for a kind SAU'r in brisbane to lend me one for the roadworthy

I saw "choyda" has offered one, thank you so much for the offer, if all else fails will have to fall back on that

If you are really in a bind and need to borrow a stock airbox and can fit it yourself, let me know.

If all else fails, i will have to ask you for the Airbox, but hopefully the previous owner has it still and will not be a issue

    • Is this not the biggest deal of all? I was hoping the whole "will slide under cars with skirts etc and lift evenly quickly with minimal fuss" was the entire point of such a device?

    • Yeah I've got one of these, Quick Jack not Quick Lift, but your link looks like a good copy For me, it's better than no hoist, but it is definitely not as good as a hoist  It lifts the car about 60cm which is a nice working height compared to regular stands and it is only under the sills so it doesn't get in the way like regular chassis stands do.  No need to use regular stands, it has a safety lock on it. On the down side it is really heavy/unwieldy to drag into place, and you have to place it after the car is there (no option to drive the car to where the frames are. You need to try and line it up with the proper sill points which is hard as it swings up in an arc and there is surprisingly little adjustment in the distance between the rubber pads for different car lengths. Not a big deal, but in practice a jack + stands is probably quicker. Also there are hydraulic lines to each side and you need either a 240v or 12v source to power it depending on which option you have, I use 12v as I always seem to have a battery around.
    • Finally addressing my catch can and oil setup Plan is to do as much as practical without having to remove the motor or pull it apart. (no back of head to sump drain/breather or oil restrictors) First step is a set of full length baffle plates from Hypertune and a Tomei cam cap stud kit. I could probably have laser cut and bent up my own ones but this took any guess work out
    • I thought about ditching it but I was worried my bonnet would sound like a 90's Swift GTi sub-filled boot.
