Buy something from SA.

Will only need to have the rego papers taken to Trans SA and do a change over with your name.

If you buy anything from another state all ( YES ALL) MODIFICATIONS will need to e taken back to stock to pass ID inspection. All Skylines/ Silvia's and some other Imports are now being targeted. They know most area's to hide items.

I was at regency last week with a customers 34 and the inspector wanted to know what was modified on it. Luckily it was a stock as a rock R34 4dr NA Auto. No one in there right mind would mod a shopping cart.

The inspector was up under the dash feeling for wires and other toys where other people have tried to hide alot of there turbo timers and other crap like that.

Buy a local car. No inspection needed.

Drive. Have fun and enjoy your new R34.

No lack of trying in that area...Adelaide doesn't have many to offer. Maybe i have to high expectations?

I bought my car from Sydney for that exact reason - and I had even tighter guidelines on myself

a) Turbo sedan

b) Manual

c) Fresh import (not second owner in AU)

d) Stock as possible

I ended up driving a Toyota Chaser JZX100 and Nissan Skyline R34 back to back, and ended up buying the skyline (chaser was gonna cost slightly more, had slightly higher km, be harder to source both performance and repair body parts, in the case of an accident, and I felt mechanics would be more familiar with skylines than chaser. Though I loved the idea of the chaser being more 'unknown' and 'wtf is that' - especially 3.5 years ago when I was looking)

So yeah - don't be scared off buying from interstate - it may be cheaper because of the P-plate laws there too (though we've just got them now too). As everyone has already noted though, you really just need to be aware of the pitfalls of bringing it back through Regency, etc.

Owning an import has it's own "special" things you soon learn about as does owning a high performance vehicle:

* Insurance costs (and dramas getting insurance except from speciifc insurers)

* Unfamiliarity of many mechanics (so you need a specialist or do most yourself)

* Higher servicing costs than a standard econobox (low profile tyres cost more, things break if you drive hard, many parts are more expensive than a more common car)

* Sourcing parts (whether its servicing parts or body/interior parts - wreckers are your friend)

* Police attention

* Regency/passingdefects (and the initial checks if you bring it in from interstate)

Anyway, it's best to be aware of what you're getting into. Good luck with all of this, I'm sure you'll find one that's perfect :P

i shouldve said all R34 GTT series 1's have boost guages. Was it a factory option in sII's to have satnav?

Yes, Factory MD/DVD/TV/SATNAV/CD player and 6 disk changer in the boot on mine from Japan, first owner since imported

then you have the 3 gauge option

or no option , just blocked off , pretty sure that is just on GT N/A versions

or the MFD from GTR with joystick on housing , my TV joystick was on the DVD TV interface control unit

had a cool screen saver with the sun reflecting off the chrome 3D words Nissan..lol

it also had multiple GPS trip meter info and some other goodies built into the TV

kinda looks a lot different now.with it all gone ,lol

You want a GTR im selling mine :P 34 GTR

Who doesn't want a GTR? but GTR prices are huge specially for a stay at home dad like me.

Went dealership hopping today most dealers want 24k plus for their r34 gtt's, but they did look pretty nice. I tried out Redline motors and Synergy on north east road. Another guy across the road from radio rentals on main north road (guy was shifty and a scumbag). But that's all i was able to find.

i know there is a car out there calling for me, just gotta find her.

Another prospect car but dont think it would pass rwc / regency: car 5

+1 to buying interstate as well, I grabbed mine from a dealer interstate, pm me is you want their details, very good service and price was amazing.

Made dealing interstate easier, most private sellers didnt get back to me or messed me around unfortunatly.

I saved alot, ID inspected and rego'ed at the rego office in 30 minutes total.

But the car was stock as a rock except for some rims.

If i was buying a modified car i probably would not look interstate. I've taken 4 different vehicles through regency and to me it seems not worth the mess around if its not stock.

Just my 2 cents if that helps.

Another prospect car.

My only concerns are:

1. its nearly due to 100k service

2. selling it on behalf of his friend who is over seas

3. not sure exactly what to look for when inspecting it (anyone come along with me help me check it out)

dont be too worried about the 100k service, all cars need to have it, and if you do it when you buy it, itll be like a new car.

Pics are shitty, so quality of painwork, matching panels etc, you cant see.

With pretty much any second hand car, it's very wise to assume that the car has not had a 100k service and get it done anyhow - this is a given as you just dont know.

Definately get a person who knows that model of car to have a look...
