Blew My Turbo.

Recommended Posts

Gday everyone.

Yep like many people on here, i have blown my turbo big time. Took it off today and actually found that i had no exhaust turbine at all. Actually located it in the cat and took a few minutes to pick out.

My question is

On the experiences of others, will i have to change my cat now? I mean it doesnt really look like there is any damage to the cat, but should it be changed?

thanks people

cheers

Yeah I'd suggest getting a bit of exhaust work done while you're there (if it's the stock system and cat) and go for an aftermarket dump and front pipe. You'll gain HEAPS of power with that and the new turbo!

Otherwise I'd get a new cat, for flow reasons, it might look fine, but its old and prob not working the best way possible...

What turbo you going to get? I'd STRONNNNGLY recommend a Garret :ninja: spend the extra dough and get the best quality!

the exhaust system is aftermarket. I was thinking about just getting a standard one again. The one i had on there before was perfect for the applications i was using the car for. Reason it blew was, being an amature i messed up the hosing for the HKS boost controller and the turbo was spooling at phenominal boost pressures, and obviously went kaboom. Look im open to suggestions though im willing to spend the extra dough for the right turbo, any suggestions of what HKS type.

Depends how much powaaar you wanna make bro...

I'd recommend a GT3076r for up to 450hp. i think that's close to a 2540 from HKS? dunno could be wrong.

Garret turbos are better than HKS, HKS just grab Garrett turbos, a few mods and a change of name and sell for $500 more!!!?!?!

Not perfectly bolt on, but welll worth it!!

A Garrett 3076r IS a HKS 3037, not a 2540 lol.

The HKS 3037 comes with one off housings, you cannot buy these from garrett. Speculation only here, although garrett IW housings are hit and miss for boost delivery/holding.

An externally gated garrett should not differ wildly from the HKS tho, other than minor AR differences.

The cores ARE the same.
