Vanishing Coolant.

Hi guy's I picked up an r32 gts-t and it had some dirty old coolant in it. First month i had it the same coolant was left in it and it stayed at the same level. Now i have flushed the system and replaced it with fresh coolant and every couple of days the coolant level in the radiator has gone down and There is no signs of leaking. I have a white sheet under the car to detect leaks. The head gasket is not blown (no milky oil) so it has me stumped. what else could chew coolant or is the coolant I have (repco branded coolant) the problem.

I have just topped her up and taken a look at it. it appears that there is either a leak under the plenum or from the bottom of the water pump. is this a common problem after changing coolant.

Maybe water pump has Crapped out?

I had the same problem on my previous car and it was the water pump leaking

Yeah sounds like the water pump has let go in the seals. This can happen when people flush the coolant due to the fact that you can remove rust and scale that may have built up and stopped it from leaking. Could also be a loose clamp at the water pump maybe

Dunno about the RB20, but on the RB25 there is a welch plug at the front of the motor near the water pump.... Mine was stuffed... I actually thought that it was the water pump and when I did my 100K service, i noticed that it was leaking from the welch plug... gheyness.....

After getting a good quallity torch and taking a look it appears that it is the passenger side of the engine that has the leak. is this consistant with the turbo water lines and if so how much work is involved in replacing them?

not much to see tbh i'll try and throw a pic up tomorrow but shes gradually getting a steady puddle on the passenger side of the engine below the turbo.

Could be any number of things mate......

Best bet is to try to see where it is leaking from..... Check all hoses and connections for wetness for a start..... Try doing it on a sunny day where you get good light, or go to bunnings and get one of those $20 halogen lamps.... Great to work on cars with......

Does it leak when it is hot or cold???? Or both....

we'll she's leaking now and it's slow when the radiator cap is on but quicker when the cap is off. car hasn't been driven since 3:30pm and that was for 3 mins.

stop toping it up and eventually it will stop leaking
