Ive been looking at up grading my oil pump from stock and always wondered about these billet pump gears

http://www.kec.com.au/index.php?option=com...&Itemid=327

they are around the $600 mark, has anyone used them, at what point would you consider the need to upgrade. would 350rwkw @ 8000 rpm in any RB engine

be safe with standard pump and shimed spring?

I came across these KEC gears not long ago but I had never heard of them (the gears, I know who KEC are) and am quite dubious.. I am more inclined to go with the JPC gears as JPC are reknowned for building tough RB30's whereas Kostecki's are reknowned for their big v8 work and ripping customers off (re: IM240 testing).

A friend of mine has the JPC gears on his 700hp 25/30. No dramas as yet.

That's very good to hear  got any more specs or details? how long has he had them? what does he rev the thing to?

Cheers!

The same engine had a N1 on there. Pulled is down due to a bearing failure and found to nice cracks in the gear.

The JPC ones are an upgrade but you can compare to the NITTO pumps.

You get what you pay for.

I thought the JPC gears were only for N1 oil pumps and not the standard ones?

p.s How would you remove the back plating of the oil pump when it has locktite on it?

impact screw driver or allen in the SR20 case.

We run new rotors in all our oil pumps (sr's) as thety are $80 from nissan.

As for rb26 i would track down whoever is making these as i cant image many places tooling up for it. Is TufRX3 (karl) doing them?

i cant see the point in buying billet gears... i would just buy a decent pump.

Had them a few months, revs to 8000rpm.

Nice

+1 for the impact screwdriver

I've already got an N1 pump and while there are no cracks, I can visually see wear on the drive surface and that worries me. I'm also not in a position to shell out another 1.5-2k for a new oil pump so if I can get some stronger gears for my N1 pump, then awesome. :)

I can see the point when i dont have a money tree, Hmmm $350 for gears that wont fail like stock ones,

or risk leaving stock ones in there. Easy choice for me when im on a budget.

depends, if the pump housing has to much rotor float you are up for a new housing and this gear set..... which is the same as wholesale on something decent. If you have a few housings that are in spec then yeah it makes sense.
