Hey guys,

my brother is putting me to work soon on his 32's boot. First i'm going to dynamat the whole inside of the boot but then he wants a audio setup through the back he does not mind if there is no access to the spare wheel ( as he hasn't even got one ). So i just need a bit of insperation if u could post below a Photo of your setup and maybe give me just one paragraph of what u have done and what equipment is included. Just a quick run down of the car.

Its a R32 M-spec, has nothing in the boot at the moment so its empty as can be, has got leak in the lights but will be fixing the seal when i start on the boot. battery is still at the front of car.

Also we dont mind if there is no extra space in the back. as we barely ever use the boot. And we don't even use it for storage its just there for show

anyway guys hope to hear back from you soon and see lots of nice setups

The center bottom panel lifts out and still has the factory spare wheel and jack.

How much did that setup set you back? ( cash wise ) and how long did it take to install

So far $2.5k, all DIY. I only get to work on it after hours so like 2-3 hours a night on the nights I do get off, been slowly chipping away at it for about 2 months and almost finished.

.

looks difficult as. thats the thing im worried most about. but i definatly like it and im sure my bro will to.

So your actual boot works as sort of a sub box. thats why the backends of the subs are facing in ?

Not particularily difficult. Just time consuming to make sure it all works the way I want and prevent rattles. Google "inverted mount subs", the back of the subs is facing out purely for aesthetics, as the magnets on eclipse subs are massive (the subs are 10"s) so I preffered to invert mount them as they look better. There's a box built into the front of them above the fuel pump/below the parcel shelf that attaches to the first front panel, and the subs then seal into that. I'll upload some more pics tonight and you'll see what I mean.

My setup is pretty simple but does the job and its pretty neat..

I bought the moulded sub boxes off ebay for $80 each

I can still use the boot, just need to order in some covers for the subs, they are the Alpine Type R's 12"

:)

In regards to rattles, I glued some rubber to the back of the number plate and thats pretty much done it for me..

You guys should see how awesome my boot is. current set up is awesome. it's light weight and flexible. It's currently empty. Unless it's full of shopping, or full of bags when I go away for a weekend. It's an expert set up. I love it. I could even throw a couple of chopped up dead bodies in the boot :D Better than 7 subs i reckon

    • Yep, pretty much what you said is a good summary. The aftermarket thing just attached to the rim, then has two lines out to valve stems, one to inner wheel, one to outer wheel. Some of the systems even start to air up as you head towards highway speed. IE, you're in the logging tracks, then as speeds increase it knows you're on tarmac and airs up so the driver doesn't even have to remember. I bet the ones that need driver intervention to air up end up seeing a lot more tyre wear from "forest pressures" in use on the highway!
    • Yes, but you need to do these type certifications for tuning parts. That is the absurd part here. Meaning tuning parts are very costly (generally speaking) as well as the technical test documentation for say a turbo swap with more power. It just makes modifying everything crazy expensive and complicated. That bracket has been lost in translation many years ago I assume, it was not there.
    • Hahaha, yeah.... not what you'd call a tamper-proof design.... but yes, with the truck setup, the lines are always connected, but typically they sit just inside the plane of the rear metal mudguards, so if you clear the guards you clear the lines as well. Not rogue 4WD tracks with tree branches and bushes everywhere, ready to hook-up an air hose. You can do it externally like a mod, but dedicated setups air-pressurize the undriven hubs, and on driven axles you can do the same thing, or pressurize the axles (lots of designs out there for this idea)... https://www.trtaustralia.com.au/traction-air-cti-system/  for example.... ..the trouble I've got here... wrt the bimmer ad... is the last bit...they don't want to show it spinning, do they.... give all the illusion that things are moving...but no...and what the hell tyre profile is that?...25??? ...far kernel, rims would be dead inside 10klms on most roads around here.... 馃槂
    • You're just describing how type certification works. Personally I would be shocked to discover that catalytic converter is not in the stock mounting position. Is there a bracket on the transfer case holding the catalytic converter and front pipe together? If so, it should be in stock position.
    • You talking about the ones in the photo above? I guess that could make sense. Fixed (but flexible) line from the point up above down to the hubcap thingo, with a rotating air seal thingo. Then fixed (but also still likely flexible) line from the "other side" of the transfer in the hub cap thingo up to the valve stem on the rim. A horrible cludge, but something that could be done. I'd bet on the Unimog version being fed through from the back, as part of the axle assembly, without the need for the vulnerable lines out to the sides. It's amazing what you can do when you have an idea that is not quite impossible. Nearly impossible, but not quite.
