I was thinking just that when I had to squash the section of the hose going into the engine bay. I didn't have to by much and don't think it will significantly hamper airflow enough for a significant difference. The diameter hose you're using looks to be much bigger than mine.

I haven't measured mine properly yet, but a hose slightly smaller than mine would suit best if you can get your hands on one I think. If it wasn't for that little protruding bracket looking piece of metal right under the hole inside the guard it would be a perfect fit!

I'd say having a hose fitted is better than nothing at all - At least you're channeling it to the Airbox.

This was one of the first mods I did to My GTR.

I think it is blocked to satisfy the sound levels and performance restrictions in Japan. It is anothe case of Nissan looking after GTR owners where you can open it to improve performance and if you are pinged for noise then just put it back in.

I have subsequently gone to Apexi pods with an enclosed carbon fibre air box. This same opening in the panel provides cold air now to the air box.
