Ouch, bummer mate :D

A friend of mine got done for letting his registration lapse a few years ago, and he got RAPED by fines...

As doughboy said, you get an unregististered car fine, AND a no third party insurance fine (because it's impossible to have 3rd party for an uninsured car), and as far as I remember the fines were pure extortion :)

Good luck mate...

A friend of mine was once caught driving her Mother's car, unbeknownst to her, her Mother had let the rego lapse, but it was my friend who copped the fines. They were fairly hefty, I remember them being somewhere around $1200 in total, but my memory on it is hazy now.

Out of interest, did you know the car was unregistered when you drove it?

tex i did know the car was register because i sold my car and needed a transport so i borrow my friend unregister car for 2 weeks '

i thought i was invincible since i never got pull over before

Well, no doubt at the risk of being called a wanker by some on here, I'd like to point out how stupid knowingly driving around in an unlicensed vehicle is - the inconvenience you saved yourself by driving your mate's car could have been well and truly offset by the massive problems you'd have encountered, if say, for example, you hit a pedestrian. You wouldn't have been insured for the injuries inflicted upon that person, and in order for them to be compensated (assuming they survived of course) they'd need to sue you, and you'd probably lose everything you own.

Something to think about. Public transport's not so bad. Neither is an $800 fine, in relation to the above scenario...

Dude im glad to hear you have learnt something from this as it seems few younger people ever do. It's good to know you learnt something from what was, in the grand scheme of things, no real big problem. You lose a little money but its just money.

Unfortunately a lot of the time we hear on this board of younger people only learning their lessons after writing off two cars. And in some of those circumstances they dont even learn then.
