Brake Disc Stuck On

howdy folks,

i was goin to change my brake rotors today. so i pulled the wheel off and removed th caliper, but to my surprise the rotor wouldnt come off! i checked all around for a screw or bolt that was holding it on but couldnt find one. with all the other cars ive done the rotors usually just fall off when u take off the caliper. but this 1 is stuck tight. i tried levering on it with a jimmy bar and even hitting it with a hammer and it wont budge. any suggestions??

There should be a couple of threaded holes that take a 6mm bolt (10mm head) that you use to push the rotor hat away from the hub. Also, try a bit of WD40 or similar around the hub centre to free up the rotor.

which way did u hit it with a hammer? hit it with a metal hammer and piece of wood, hit on all directions, around, in, out everything u can think of.

thanks guys. ive already tried some wd40 and hitting it from every angle i could get a swing at it, but no luck. unfortunately it doesnt have the 2 threaded holes to push the rotor off. the new 1s do, but sadly that wont help me till next time

assuming it is front (rears generally have the thread to pull it off the handbrake drums), it is likely just light surface rust sticking the caliper to the hub.

so, as said above bashing with a rubber mallet or similar will do it sooner or later. hit the face of the disc with medium hit around the outside and it will come free.

yes it was a front 1. rubber mallets and regular hammers didnt budge it. the solution came in the form of a 6lb dead blow hammer. even that took a few big swings. needless to say the rotor is a little deformed! lol glad i got some new 1s

I'd be replacing wheel bearings after whacking the hell out of it with a 6lb hammer. wouldn't hurt to check the hub for runout as well, seeing as how you bent the disc!
