Hey guys, i have come to a extremely annoying issue with my car. Its a s13 with a std RB20 in it nothing is modified or changed or anything like that as for yet.

The problem i get is every morning before work i start the car it hesitates to start it almost acts like a carby car were i have to pump the throttle fast to get it started then it will splatter for bout 2-5secs then runs perfect, ill have a smoke while motor is running to warm it up then i cruise nicely for about 5mins until i get to the freeway at this time the temp is on half which is normal now my problem is this the car will not rev passed 6-6500rpm it will splatter and the exhaust note changes and has a flat spot as well as power is not there. The only way i have found out to resolve this is to drive the car for about half an hour turn the motor off start it up and then the power is there perfect

Yesterday my mate suggested my Coolant Temp Sensor is faulty, the two pin yellow sensor near the temp sender for the cluster.

Has anyone else had a similar or the same issue or what can i do to get it fixed.

is there a way to temporarily bypass the sender just to make sure that is the fault?

thanks

is the gauge reading accurately? it should take a good 5 - 10 mins to warm up then should sit either just under half way or bang on half way (if its pretty hot) if this is the case then its doing its job properly id be looking else where.

I unplugged it on the way home from work still the same cold startup but there was a slight difference felt little like it had a flat spot at about 2500rpm on the freeway. Yeh temp guage is working to how it should be

of course it will feel flat with the water temp sensor unplugged

the ecu will run basic retard mapping and perform sluggish but should still run

the main focus was did it change or alter the cold start issue?

nope didn't make a difference.

I can put a multimeter across the sensor at cold start until warm up and see what ohms i get out of it. I know that GTRs have the same sensor and i noticed they look the same as a vl but im not sure if it will work. I guess i can just try getting one from pick a part and see how i go?

thanks

oh n Geraus its not knock sensor as my 32 4 door had an issue with the knock sensor and it was a totally different issue

hahaha yeah i have to one day...

um consult port not to sure about that, its all in a s13 i done the conversion is the port just a plug off the loom near the ecu? ive never really looked into it

    • Do you think the guys in Penrith are install the E85 Kit?
    • Thanks Pac!   I will reach out to them!
    • Yes, but 2 things of the top of my head, 1. Legalities of nitrous on a street car. 2. No chop chop. I fully understand that there's much cheaper ways to make power, and whilst a wet 50 shot is fairly cheap to install, bottle fills are expensive, and bottles always need to be refilled, and nitrous also has its own inherent issues with reliability, and tuning, from my experience of others using nitrous, it doesn't take alot to lunch a engine real quick if something goes slightly wrong when spraying, if I wanted a big chunk of additional powers, a spooly boy would make alot more sense, disregarding the additional engineering, supporting mods and other logistical issues of sticking a spooly boy on a car that came naturally aspirated from factory  In the end I'm not racing for sheep stations, and I don't really care if people make more power, or are faster than me, or spend less, or more than me, the only thing the car needs to do is drive around and make me smile, which it is doing now Really, I just want a shiny new intake to look at when I'm cleaning the engine bay, and of course, some more induction doorts, and maybe even that 5kw for that elusive 200hp cherry on top that I might get If the FAB9 intake plenum, TB and air filter box thing doesn't eventuate for whatever reason, Plasmaman do one, not as fancy looking, and a fair chunk of more cash is required when including the TB and other bits and pieces that are required to install it, but, it is another option that is available to me if FAB9 one does fall down (but I really, really.....really, want the FAB9 one though) TL;DR. You want what you want
