Cleaning Intercooler

Hi guys,

I just purchased a HKS intercooler at a good price. But the downside was it was very dirty.

I want to clean outside and in but not too sure about what to use.

Would such degreasers such as engine degreaser or CLR work?

What do you guys recommened and what method is best to use?

flush it with petrol, then rinse the f**k out of it with degreaser and a high pressure hose.

I cleaned out my standard intercooler with a whole lot of degreaser from supercheap auto, load the whole can inside the intercooler - swish it around, tip it upside down etc etc, hose it down and repeat... supercheap had the degreasers on special so you can repeat it as many times as you deam necessary until all the crud is out.

tape one end, put some petrol, tape other end, swish it, repeat till petrol is clean when u enpty, leave to dry for 24 hours

+1 on Rad32's comment - make sure you get some decent vinyl tape! Be prepared to scrub the nasty salts that form on the outside of the cooler after u degrease it also...

i will probably do the one most people are saying by using the petrol inside and using tape to hold it in

and then use the degreaser on the outside to try and clean it up.

I will let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow

do you guys reckon a bit of brasso or autosol metal polish will rock up nice after i clean it and its dry?

To give it that extra shine? or will it do nothing?

kero works well too.

wet n dry, 240,400,600,1000,1200 then autosol is what i use to polish things. might take you a few hours, but will look a million dollars when its done

50 / 50 Metho and Kero mixed up, with some good quality duct tape on one of the end tanks. Swish it around for a good 5 minutes, then pour out and repeat till the stuff your pouring out is close to the same colour as what is going in.

To clean up the outside use the Bit Sus technique. If its not to bad perhaps start with 600 grit wet and dry :-)
