Hey guys,

I've tried to search but couldnt get any of the info i need.

Does anyone here uses king springs ? If you do, would you mind reviewing how hard it is ?

And what the ride is like with these springs. I'm looking to changing my springs but

I dont know which springs should i get, whiteline or kings ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

The Whitelines are probably Kings anyways. There aren't that many spring manufacturers in Australia.

I have the Kings in my GTS4, but I also have Bilstein dampers, so it's hard to tell which contributes more to the stiffness of ride.

There are a fair few spring mnaufacturers in OZ, and no doubt some are better then others due to the processes/materials used.

I used King Springs on my 32 GTST and was happy with the improvement. Car did not ride much harder, still very compliant as the spring rates on off the shelf King Springs are so they will work with std shocks so are probably only in the region of 15% stiffer then std (GUESSTIMATE)

The car seemed a little sharper too which is always a good thing, and aesthetically was lower so looked better

Have also used Whitleline Springs, whatever you can get the best deal on, as they are both good quality.

Hi guys, I am not a believer in the Kings philosophy, they only make springs and so they try to do everything with the spring. This means they try to control the roll with spring rates (thus too stiff), they try to control the dive at the front under brakes with front springs (thus too stiff), they try to control the rear squat with rear springs (thus too stiff). You should control the roll with stabiliser bars (front and rear), you should control the front under brakes by adjusting the anti dive (adj caster rods), you should control the rear under power with anti squat (pineapples) etc

Whereas Whiteline have a full range of suspension parts and design the springs to so what they are supposed to do, hold the car up and absorb the bumps.

Roy is right, there is not much difference in quality of the product they manufacture, I just prefer the Whiteline philosophy.

Hope that helps

I have Kings in my R33 gtst (one and only suspension change)

Looks better coz its lower

Minimal gain in handling performance

Ride is slightly harder than stock

Cheap (well depends where you go I guess)

OK choice if your suspension modification is more about the lowered look, although it is not super-low. It is a very friendly/driveable ride height for big speed bumps in car parks etc.

I JUST put king springs on yesterday. They have been on for a matter of hours, but I like them already. Ride is stiff today, but they need some time to settle. I can update you with how they feel later on. Alot of my friends use them, and they have no complaints. For street driving they feel really good.

thumbs up from me

I've used their sports coil-overs....too stiff, car likes to bounce a lot on the highway. Tried their different spring rates....never right. Pulled the coil-overs out and tried their lowered springs...too soft. Somewhere in between would be nice for me. KINGS tend to make springs, but not to suit the cars they go on.

They are cheap so don't expect a lot...you may be lucky to fluke a good combination, but wise money is spent on something tried and true. Buy from suspension specialise.

firstly, i'd like to thank all of you guys for your feedback on this. I really appreciate it.

I'm so confused with which springs to get at the moment. I want something stiff.

And everyone is telling me to get King's, but after what Sydneykid said.

I keep on thinking, yeah thats true, they only make springs and not shocks.

What do you guys think of TEIN springs ? They're around the same price if not a lil more.

Thanks again fellas !

:D

  • 2 weeks later...

Just adding - I had King Springs in my '32 GTS-t on KYB shocks, the ride was fairly hard but not bone jarring.....I can verify that they are not much harder then the std springs as I've swapped them due to cops deciding that my middle muffler being 1cm too low was worthy of a defect (good old Victoria).

Additionally, the handling is not much different (shocks seem quite stiff) but the car used to look heaps better then it does now which sucks! Coilover time I guess....

    • Hi guys, Sorry to butt in and take it slightly off course, although still on the VCAM subject.  I had VCAM put into my Tomei 2.8 bottom end and I struggle to take off because the engine has very little torque caused by VERY low dynamic compression at 60psi. But once off the mark and especially on boost, the engine rev happily all the way to 8000rpm and makes 630hp at 20psi of boost on E85 at the rear hubs. Has anyone had any similar experience or any suggestions on what might cause this low compression at low rpm? I am in the process of converting it into a 8hp transmission and with this low torque, the engine would not even stay running until the throttle is opened to more than 30% and then I loose all vacuum.
    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.
