Surfs Etc Why No Importy?

Is it purely the kw/tonne figure that rules things like Surf etc out of being imported nowadays? I though they had to meet a few criterea and that it was possible if they met a certain number? I will be looking for something like this in 6-8 months, I would love an ARX 4 Stag, but I know there will be several things I want to do that it will not/should not do... Surfs that were imported are all pretty old (or scarce) nowadays, and the next option is Aus delivered Navara/Triton/80 series etc, which are either big money or done a lot of work. Is there anything like this coming?

My concern about surfs and 80 series being old would go doubly for a 60... Mid to late 90s is where I am looking, if not later

98 - 05 hilux's are very reliable, other than that only import wagons are the stagea and mitsubishi legnum or delica. i'd like a 260rs stagea.

but you have rocks in your head if you want a surf. unless its the later model all the rest guzzle fuel.
