TUF250
Hi all, I just installed a digital boost gauge on my r33 gts-t. note car has std turbo in excellent condition, no smoke or shaft play at all. So far my car has the following mods: - pod filter - r34 gt-t intercooler - 3inch bellmouth dump/front pipe - aftermarket cat (came with car) apparently an xforce but cant confirm - Jap (K&h brand) Cat back, 3 inch madral bends and stainless steel (has two mufflers however and the back one is HUGE with twin pipes running through it, maybe a restriction?) - new platinum plugs plus a major service belts, all oils etc Anyway, the car runs great, I just wanted to have a boost gauge before I start playing with boost modification. Given my mods and what I have read on the forum I was expecting about 7 low, 9-10 high. However I am still getting the 5psi low and 7 psi high boost. Im not concerned as I am going to change it anyway but I want to understand why its still standard. is there a restrivtion? what would be causing it? No point in uping boost if there is still a restrction in the breathing department. Thanks! TUF250
dont know if it helps but i think i did feel a bit of R&R which is a first for my car (well I havnt noticed it before at least) wasnt bad just a touch, Would R&R cause the boost to be cut back and if so 7 still seems very high if it was trying to protect itself? im confused? defari
stock they run 7psi so shouldn't be in r&r you need to turn the boost up manually via a T-piece or electronic boost controller. Keep in mind stock turbo/ecu wont handle much more than 12psi Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/329231-car-still-only-making-57psi-with-mods/#findComment-5350837 Share on other sites
TUF250
yeah thats fine, was only going to go up a tad. I have read many times on here that they are 7psi stock (high) but with all the flow mods you will see 9-10ish? Moodles2
You will need a boost controller (manual or electronic) to get that 10psi you want, when freeing up the exhaust you'll only see 1psi difference really depending how restrictive the factory exhaust was. 2 options really, the boost controller, or the free boost trick that grounds the factory boost solenoid so it only runs high: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/HO...ost-t42895.html Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/329231-car-still-only-making-57psi-with-mods/#findComment-5350940 Share on other sites
TUF250
thanks for the reply guys, the more I read though the more people I see getting more boost at the manifold with these breathing mods? boostn0199
You will see more boost if you change your dump front pipe since the stock one is very restricting and also if you get a front mount intercooler not the r34 one. R&R usually starts to hit over 11 -12 psi so you wouldnt be hitting that yet. jrm
I've only got a high-flow panel and 3" turbo-back exhaust - my car sure isn't at 5/7psi any more. Low is about 7psi (0.5 bar), high is about 9 psi (0.63 bar) - my boost gauge is in bar, so yeah, converted it back for you. KiwiRS4T
Nothing wrong with the R34 smic ( I have made over 200awkw with one on my RB25DET). Firstly just double checking that your boost guage reads in psi? Secondly can you borrow another to check its accuracy? Best way to increase boost for free is to bypass the solenoid altogether. Put the restrictor in the bleed line to give you 9 -10- psi or drill it out to increase boost.
