Tv Tuners...again

Recommended Posts

That would be great as i pick my m35 up on wednesday. If you get them is there anywhere in brisane / capalaba area that does the install?

You can easily do it yourself if you follow the info on the forum. There's an install guide and wiring diagram that Simon has put together in another thread here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...ig-t203961.html

Otherwise any audio/alarm type installer could do it for you at a price. Just print out the info & take it along to a few local shops & see what they say.

I just bought the last one from Chook a week or so ago. When I found out he had none left I thought I'd ask my "buyer" in China to hunt me down a price on 10-20 of these so I can supply them to forum members at a good price.

Give me a week or two to see if I can get the HR3's in at a good price for you.

that'd be rocking.. and wouldnt have to justify it to the mrs.. she already wants it :worship:

see also Zylux. same unit. seems there are 3-4 people bringing them in under differnt names.

btw: globalsources or alibaba are your friend. the MOQ will probably stuff most people though.

It seems Zylux in Australia don't have any to sell right now, unless I'm looking at the wrong url. The info is there (not quite the same specs as the ASUKA HR3 - no USB - but close) however I can't find it in their online shop.

You are right about minimum order quantities. But my buyer seems to get around this by buying sample amounts - for muliple customers...

Most of the gear I import for my business normally arrives costing me 25% of what I can buy it for here in Aus (yep, save 75%) so I'm confident if he can get it to me then a bargain is to be had by all.

Any body have any tuners left available?

How much?

worth it?

Hi Aaron

I just tested a sample tuner last night. It's sort of an alternative to the Asuka HR3.

What it doesn't have (although the manual says it should) is an AV input for reverse camera. Not a prob for me as I have a reverse cam input on my Eclipse head unit. It also doesn't have 3 x AV outputs for you to run to other screens with AV inputs.

What it does have:

1 x AV output (coax vid L & R audio)

1 x Component output (RGB)

1 x HDMI output

This means it has flexibility as to what you can connect with. All of these work at same time so you can run another screen as long as it has the input to suit, or you get a cable that is (say) HDMI to AV.

Diversity (dual) f-type antenna inputs

Powered antennas, which are optional extra with other tuners (V series owners need these), come standard with this one. They work really well at my place which has crap TV reception. I received nothing unpowered, but with 12V applied the channels came in really well (indoors with steel frame house). The factory Stagea antennas are supposedly better again.

USB for playing video / audio files and recording live TV (tested and it works great, but not sure how often you would want to do this though).

And mounting brackets (Asuka doesn't come with these.)

So for what looks to be about $230 delivered to your door (add another $10-$15 for a good quality AV lead) and an arvo of your time you get TV in your car. I reckon it's worth it :bunny:

I'm still not sure if I'm going to bring in a batch of the Asuka HR3's, just for those that want a reverse camera input (& maybe extra AV outputs for other displays) since these new ones look to be the goods.

Equivalent cost of the Asuka (if you needed aftermarket antennas) would be close to $370 at your door....

Anyway, I'm going to install my sample tuner in the car this weekend and test it for a few days. If it continues to impress I'll have a box of these available in a few weeks, just in time for Christmas presents.

Cheers, Leon.

Im in! 100% sure. not fussed about the reverse camera, for some reason I hate them and wouldnt've installed it if it came with one, dont ask its just a personal preference.

the 3x AV output isnt a problem. If I was going to do headrest for example. an AV splitter will do the job.

does it have an AV and/or HDMI input? Lets say I wanna hook up the PS3 to it. when i install a transformed powerpoint.

Like I said, I'm definately interested, as the cheapest i could find $510 for the HRIII replica, which is not so much a replica.

Let me know the earliest you can get these in, and i will Transfer the dosh to you.

Cheers.

No worries, you will be nearly the first to hear!.

They only have 2 "inputs" as such. 1 is the RF tv signal via the f-type coax connectors & the other is the USB port for play vid/audio files. They show one AV input in the manual but it is actually an output & is labelled as such on the case.

If you wanted to set up a PS3, I would say get the AV splitter/video switch device you mentioned but find one to do all the connections you need. ie TV or PS3 in (switchable?), muliple outputs for head rest screens.

I say you can never have too much entertainment in your car, especially if you cart around young'uns :bunny:

Sounds good.

So this won't affect the displays normal function apart from reverse camera?

A bit foggy myself

Hi Graham. No it just replaces the TV function with a TV tuner that picks up regular digital TV broadcasts. Plus you can play movies or audio files from a USB stick. All the other functions like trip, fuel consumption, compass etc remain as they were. If you don't have a reverse camera & wanted one, then the Asuka is a better model 'cause you can integrate both functions. I wasn't looking forward to putting a rev cam on my wifes car anyway as it looks to be a bugger getting the cable down the tailgate. Might just stick with TV for now.

Aaron, whatever can be picked up in the area you are in, ie tuned like you would a regular TV, should be able to be received whilst "parked" in your car :)

Cheers, Leon.

Hey Jetwreck, thanks but all the work was done previously by Chook, Andy, Brad (and others?). I'm just helping out with sourcing more tuners. I'm bummed that Asuka are so hard to deal with. Price keeps going up (from what I hear) and service is coming down. It's a shame 'cause the product was really good.

Having said that, this sample I've been testing continues to impress. Especially for our V series brothers who need the external antennas as these come standard.

Seeing as it will be delivered for about $230 makes it great value. Andy mentioned there's a way of connecting a reverse cam to the existing tuner box so I guess it doesn't matter if the new type can't perform that function. It's funny when dealing with these cars. Just when you think there's nothing you can do, along comes 3 ways of doing it :ermm:

BTW, I actually live between Byron Bay and Ballina, so about 2 hours north of Coffs. I do a lot of work in Coffs and Port Macquarie though, so you never know. I may be passing through while you are there.

Cheers, Leon.

PS Did you get a chance to look at your OBD2 connector to see if you had a wire in pin 14? Mine's been removed and I suspect that's why my new info meter doesn't work..
