Hey guys,

There doesn't seem to be a post on this so I shall start one.

Where do you put your sound deadning mats(or whatever alternative methods/materials) to eliminate road noise and/or car rattling?

This is refering to Skylines to be specific, but all other general vehicle solutions are welcomed.

Specifying exact location and your methods will be great.

example:

"changed seals on door" or "sprayed sound deadning on wheel arches" or "sealed of service holes with duck tape and aluminium" etc etc

You guys get the idea =).

This post is NOT about the material brands(ie dynamat vs brownbread vs flashing material(flashtac, quick roof)).

I'll start with one:

There was a small hole under the car(under the front passenger seat), probably used to let water out. Was sealed with (duck tape + aluminium) and sound deadener.

deadening and sealing the doors is probably one of the most effective areas. That and the boot are the first areas most people address. I find the firewall is the main source of annoying noises to me after the doors

How did you do the firewall? underlay? or deadening mats?

inner doors, outer doors, bonnet with proper kind of deadener

inner guards behind the rear seats, under the seats, roof

some plastic dash parts, door panels

bumpers, skirts, frame rails

rear valance, tail lights

bonnet lid, spoiler insides

behind the boot panels , between the front cabin and boot panels

remove the panels bolted on the rear seat area, deaden inside and out.

undercoat the floor and inner guards as well from the outside

think that about covers it. not responsible for someone using the wrong type deadener in the wrong location. based upon what I just wrote.lol

some can damage the outer skins and others can burn easy, others make a huge mess

what to use where is a trade secret of sorts ..lol

How do you do the bumper n skirts? lol

pull off the front and rear bar and a few choices include, spray on sound deadener. or another couple of product's which will remain a trade secret..lol

all automotive safe and actually improves the impact safety a bit, take a lot longer to apply and shape to fit

forget to add, do your rego plates as a priority... they will rattle a lot

I know this will probably sound like a huge bodge job to some, but I just got some like undercar deadener from Bunnings (its in a tin) and pulled everything out of the inside of the boot and pulled the backseats all out and everything. and put that on. I had huge trouble with the car rattling from the sub. The stuff takes a while to dry properly... but it has actually made a huge difference. It only comes in black though, but where you have it you dont really see it.

If you buy the right type deadener you can paint over it with normal auto paints, some of it never dries 100% so beware, that isn't the kind to use

and fumes can be there for weeks until the car is in the sun and baked a bit.best if you can leave it open but alarmed still in a locked garage to air out at first

funny enough some of my worse rattles came from my sunroof when closed ???

and the car chassis is so stiff now it goes on two wheels (one front.. one rear ) upon entry to car parks, looks and feel funny as hell.

thank god for nismo lsd or I'd get stuck mid air...lol

you can't see much besides the under-carriage deadener everything else is hidden

and yeah JRM catch me at auto salon if you want to chat , my car isn't showing but will be there for photos. be at in the rest of the shows this year displaying

Is this just to fix road noise sort of thing?

Did 2 layers on the boot lid, amazing how much difference it makes. Bass is alot clearer and louder. Opening the boot sounds like taking the subs out. Did 3 coats of spray on deadener on the inner doors, improved the sound quality of the splits a fair bit, quietened down road noise and the noise from the electric windows too.

Roof is a big one , on my car the sunroof rattled like a bastard even without a stereo. did the headliner in new black suede so that helped tighten the whole thing up nicely

bit weird driving a car with a black roof liner now....lol after the crappy gray one..hahaha

all the other bits are black too, mirror, visors, etc
