I ordered a set of personalised plates through EZYREG in SA, and when I went in to pick them up, I was asked what vehicle they were going on. When I told her I didn't yet have the car she said "then you can't have the plates". Even though I have paid for them she said the agreement was that they were to go on a car. How come then, the website let me order and pay without putting in any vehicle particulars. Mind you I've kept the personalised plates off my previous car and have not heard a squeak out of the rego dept for 3 months.

Sorry i cant help you mate, but ive got a R33 coming and i want to order my personalized plates aswell, but wasnt sure if i needed to have the car before hand, im curious as to why she wouldnt hand them to you

By putting in the order in you can at least secure the plate number even if you can't pick them up. On the EZYREG site in SA just leave out the details of the "Old Registration Number"

I'll be making a phone call tomorrow to find out if what I was told was correct. If I knew I couldn't pick them up I wouldn't have wasted my time going there, that's what really ticked me off. At least I got to see them...GTR-333 maroon on white. They looked nice for the short time they were in my sight. I should have grabbed them and done a runner.

As I'm thinking about this I remember there was an option to have these plates delivered to my home address. Maybe if I chose that option, I would now have them in my hot little hands.

EDIT

I just tried a dummy run using my address for delivery and not filling in the existing plate information and it wouldn't let me continue with "our agreement".

you cannot pick up custom plates without handing in old plates of the car you want them on...simple as that! hope this helps.

I've had the same personalised plates on two diff. cars and all I did each was fill out a form stating the old plate number and what the new one was to be. Each time I kept the original state plates and when I sold the cars I filled out the appropriate paper work and I bolted back the original plates that I had kept at home. After selling the last car a few months ago I kept my personalised plates which are still sitting in my shed. Nobody asked for them to be handed back in. This is in Sth Aus.

The thing in my original post was that I went in to pick up my new plates that EZYreg let me order and pay for. I was just surprised I couldn't have them after making a special trip in to pick them up. Maybe I missed the fine print on their website.
