M35: Blank Pipe On Intake?

Can anyone explain why there is a blank pipe running off the intake? It doesn't seem to go anywhere... what is its purpose?

I've heard it referred to as an acoustic resonator, and that it stops it from sounding crap - but I think I've heard, also, that it is designed to ensure air flow is maximised at all speeds and air pressures. I could be wrong on both accounts though

Yes, it is a resonator... it is there only to quieten down the intake.

Won't do you any harm blanking it off if you want a little more intake sound

Yes. My 25G and S13 both have these quieting devices. Also at various places around C34s you will find round rubber blocks bolted on. Same thing, to stop harmonics making the car feel like it is going to disintergrate.

mines blanked off.....it's called a IDN pipe

There is a weight on the stock exhaust and gearbox. It is an anti vibration device..

+1 on the resonator doing nothing. Blanked mine off and has had no real effect on the car but does give better access to the pipe off the back of the block to fit a catch can..

I saw that weight hanging off the gearbox today while I was refitting the front pipe, I was going to rip it off then and there but I didn't have the right spanner handy.

just turned mine the other way around and re tightened the clamp.... ofcorse measure the intake and put a line on the black pip so your not going too far in!

mines all going away this weekend lol.

I'm sure one of you could find a use for the pointless pipe.. I use mine to store things like screws and bolts i may need later. i fitted a door stop on the end n just keep it in the tool box.. lol
