Hey, like the title says.. I want to know if there really is any difference in buying a no name strut bar for $100 or an Apexi one for $500 or however much they are.

Ide assume that the APEXI one has engineering and development on its side, but when it comes down to it, a strut bar is a strut bar and they all do the same thing.. correct me if im wrong?!?

Also, Where can i get good strut bars for r33 series 1

thanks

knore - there have been quite a few strut bars going around lately for around $120. I have not seen any of these (like the ones from Mase's group buy) but I did buy one off ebay about 6 months ago and it was pretty heavy and u could feel it flex just by putting my body weight on it.

At the end of the day what you really want is no flex, then weight, then rice. I think the brand name bars are going to be better, but if the price difference is worth it, thats up to you.

I cant help you with where to get them etc.. but if you do chose to go for a Jap brand, the best bar by far is the nismo bar with master cylender stopper. They are really strong, light and have a brake stopper built in.

Dave.

Something like a Whiteline strut brace (Aussie made) is simple, well priced and does the job nicely.

Of course if you are after looks or a light weight alternative, then looking to a dearer japanese brand like HKS or JIC might be more your style.

Try whiteline.com.au

Cool,

thanks for the info Dave, u pretty much summed up what i thought,

The nismo one sounds good, although i dont think i really need that, do you know how much they are anyway?

Blitz:

Im actually getting a full Whiteline kit (bushes, sway bars etc etc) put on in the next few weeks, so ill get them to put the whiteline strut brace on too, makes sence i guess :)

How much was the strut brace from whiteline?

The Nismo ones are about $660 from www.n-1.com.au -- if it includes the master cylinder stopper, that's not too bad.

Myself, I'd only buy the brand name stuff. You know what you're working with then. But the Whiteline stuff is pretty decent anyway.

its just like asking.

Is a Hybrid intercooler better or a HKS/Apex/Blitz/Trust one better ?  :D

i guess you get the point right ? Ppl dont pay more for nothing ya know .. :uh-huh:

Ummm, thats not always right. Anything with a jap brand sticker on is dearer because they have put their name on it. You dont seriously think they they produce *everything* they sell?

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
    • I was more thinking so it doesn't flop around as much rather than for rotating it. Once you have the balance right, it should rotate well enough, depending on how much resistance there is on the pivot. I think you said the pivot point was on a bearing though didn't you?
