I currently have a budget of $15k which finally allows me to purchase a Skyline. The main reasons I didnt get a Skyline in the first place was the fact I didnt have the cash and I was on my P's.

Now that I have my full licence I plan on ditching my Pulsar for a R33. I have a few questions before I make a purchase.

1. What are the laws concerning mufflers? Someone told me you cant those huge mufflers unless they come standard with the car. I find this hard to believe since I see them everywhere on all sorts of cars.

2. Those cars that importers sell, would they be considers street legal in the eyes of police? I ask this because I would expect that all cars need to pass certain regulartion before they are allowed to be imported into the country.

3. What are the rules when it comes to passing a RWC?

Cheers,

well different people will tell you different things. the cops usually wont care to much unless its so loud it sounds like ur running a straight pipe :-) and u aint being a dick.

whoever told you that u cant have a different exhaust system on your car is wrong as if it was illegal we wouldnt have all those exhaust places making and selling them.

the best way to safe guard yourself is to get an enginners cert for the mod and then you should have no troubles.

thats what i have been told. but again i may not be correct but i think im pretty on the money with this one

Cheers,

you can have "huge" mufflers but they will send u epa notices for it guy above is dreaming they always go for the muffler if its loud.

yes the cars are street legal given they will supply you witha RWC, doesnt mean the exhaust is EPA legal for example. Once you change stuff its on your own head too, which inevitably you will. Also why go through dealer the used car market is prime for the taking..

seller should provide you with a RWC.. i wouldnt buy a car without one to much head fk gettin one.

engineers cert is a waste of time, assuming your in victoria

What the limit?

Also why go through dealer the used car market is prime for the taking..

Ease/conveniance (registration etc), and I assume fresh imports are less likely to have had the shit thrashed out of them.

I've gone to a few importers and I think I found a gem, here are the stats:

1996 GTST s2 R33 6 cylinder Petrol Intercooled Turbo 2.5L

140,000 KM

Manual

S2 factory bodykit with spoiler and side skirts

Factory sunroof

Sports exhaust

Japanese Volks alloys

Monza suspension

(+ As apart of the contract I would get minor fixes like, regasing the aircon, changing the dull light bulbs inside, replacing a missing screw, getting rid of the stock standard Japanese headunit, all for free)

Price: $14,000

Both inside and out its immaculate, the electronics all work great, I cant comment mechanically but from the test drive its a beast under the bonnet. A mate of mine whos an apprentice mechanic said once a car with a turbo has gone over 100k it'll start leaking and having problems. Is there any truth to this?

Fair bit overpriced in my opinion, if you troll the for sale forums here you can find a great condition, tastefully modded 33 with a fair whack of jam goodies under the bonnet for that much, not to mention you get to meet the owner which can give you a fair idea of how the car was treated... I would say the s2 Mspec you posted isn't worth more then 10k... At the end of the day go for whatever your happy with though... No point asking the world to pick a car you'll like :( good luck in your hunt buddy!

Edit: with regards to the turbo theirs no "limit mark" to be scared of, if the car has been boosted to high for to long it can become unreliable but at the end of the day the km's shouldn't scare you away, let the condition of the car and engine itself be a indication of the age of the car (can't even count how many 60k km r33s are floating around their which have been wound back to the shit house.

If you're prepared to spend 15K I'm sure you can get an R34 GT-T through private sale, with RWC. A bit newer and IMO better looking. Get a StateRoads check for greater peace of mind.

But hey, if you like that R33 (and it does look beautiful - love white) then go for it. I'm sure everyone will tell you there's cheaper ones out there. But if spending a couple of extra K's means less hassle and someone you can go back to with minor problems then maybe it's worth it.

And as others have said, the condition of the car is a much better indication of how worn it is, the odometer can't be trusted.

If you are happy with the price of the car.. then there is nothing wrong with going for it..

But on another note.. I would not trust a dealer with even holding my lunch.. Just be careful and do all the necessay checks to ensure there is nothing dodgy with it.. As i have had a dodgy dealer before when buying a car..

don't buy from a dealer, always a good 25% more the market value.

find a car you like and think is worth getting then pay for a proffessional inspection. i recommend the following. costs a bit but worth it in the end. nothing worse then buying a lemon and considering you lack mechanical or even basic knowledge on imports, its a good idea.
